I think you'd be better leaving it all black. Too many black guitars have gold or chrome hardware. An all black guitar looks awesome IMO.
What are the Jackson pickups in that thing like? Are they shit?
There seems to be so many different variants of Jackson models I have no idea how they are all classified. Where does this thing come? Is it about the same as an RR5 but with worse pickups? Or what?
          Looks great anyway!

err...i think i would still change the hardware...from pickguard - the smallest screws =P
and as for the pickups, i would say that eventhough this baby is 15 yrs old, the bridge pickup is like a weaker version of today's RR3, but with a cleaner + better neck pickups. i've never played an RR5 since my area doesnt really have any decent music store that has a lot of jackson stuf...RR3...a few shitty dinky...and a few soloist usa. but in anycase, if i'm comparing the original pickups on this vs my fusion ex(b4 any upgrades), i would say that this pickup is still a beast based on its age...though i would still swap it w/ a invader / dimebucker as soon as i have enough money. sorry i dont really get your question "where does this thing come?"

I mean, in terms of quality, where would this thing rank? Is it a bolt on, like an RR3 or a thru neck? It has binding so I assume it's better quality than an RR3, but the pickups are "only" Jacksons which I presume are shit, since the Jackson pickups I have in my cheap Concept sound like crap.

As for you swapping your pickup for an Invader or Dimebucker....whoa! Poor choices there!
The Invader is only good for rythm (VERY good indeed actually, but useless for leads) and the Dimebucker is about the worst Duncan pickup available judging on the feedback. For Dime sounds, you'd be better off with a Bill Lawrence USA 500XL - about three times less money, and sounds great. I just put one in a Jackson Concept and it sounds as good as any of my Duncans pretty much. I don't give a flying fuck about the Bill Lawrence versus Bill Lawrence USA arguments, I got a USA version pickup and it sounds fuckin great.

its a neck through, and yes, its better than RR3, no doubt about it. however, according to the reviews, Rhoads pro is suppose to be as good/ or even better in terms of price/quality than a RR1, almost have the same spec as well. a japanese RR1 perhaps (i've never played an RR1, but comparing picture vs picture, i dont think its that different)
actually, i'm just looking for something that gives a really distorted pickups;one that give a brutal distortion. and my ex rr3 has SD invader, and it sounds great. and i've played around and almost bought a dean razorback explosion (b4 becoming jackson guy), and i was about to buy it mainly because i love the sound...luckily, my creditcard got declined, haha lucky for me (my check hasnt cleared yet lol). i dont mind about the muddy sound since i use a neck pickups whenever i play in clean mode, and bridge pickups for distortion. and yes, someone has told me about that dimarzio bill laurance pickups...though i've never tried it before, nor heard about its demo/sound. but we'll see then.

Dimebag used Bill Lawrence pickups, but they have nothing to do with DiMarzio.
I did like my Invader, but only for riffage. It was useless for leads, and most people agree, although Nile use them and they kick ass.
For us mere mortals though, I'd say steer clear of Invaders unless you're a rythm guitarist only.

oh, i thought bill lawrence pickups are from dimarzios. just curious, can you explain a little bit more about the part where invader sucked? i didnt have any problem with it what so ever, shredding is fun, sounds great, pinch harmonics and artificial harmonics, which are my siggy, was easy. i play lead btw, with bodom style playing, but my band and i do covers from megadeth, bodom, inflames, GnR,even to behemoth. i'm confused :dunno:
oh, i dont like EMG, i think its overrated, and my fusion ex uses a screaming demon. i like it, but it doesnt give enough punch sometimes...so yeah.

Well, if you liked the Invader, then cool. Like I say, Nile use them for leads and I love Nile.
I just didn't like them for anything other than heavy riffage, and most people on the Duncan forum agreed with that assessment. But it's all down to your opinion in the end, so if you liked the Invader then stick one in there!
I loved mine for Master of Puppets style riffing.

actually, those should be j-50s which are generally considered excellent pickups. and the real pros, like this is, are speced exactly the same (to the best of my knowledge) as the usa guitars at the time
