  • Just snagged a KE3

From Ebay. £142. Comes with a hard case too. Considering the Duncan pickups are probably worth about £90, and the case is worth about £50, I reckon I got a bit of a bargain!
Dunno how I'll keep it hidden from the wife though.....

treat the wife to a meal

let me know how that hangs on a strap, i had a crimson swirl ke3 about a year ago and couldnt get around the nose dive problem, which was a shame cause the kelly is one of my fav all time shapes.

    Btw you got a bargain!

      Nice find!

I wish I could come across some great deals like that. Sometimes, when I'm bored I'll surf ebay to try and find a nice Jackson going cheap, but to no avail.

I've just noticed the inlays. I didn't realise that any of the KE3s came with reverse sharkfins, apart from the reverse headstock runs. You learn something every day, I guess. Well technically since I'm a student I'm probably supposed to learn something every day. That's my quota filled!

Yep, the inlays are sweet. I'm not certain the pickups are genuine Duncans though - the listing said they are, but I have a feeling they're "Duncan Designed". I emailed the guy but he's not replied yet....
It's still a good price, but obviously I want real Duncans. So, let's hope its a JB/Jazz set!

BTW He tells me the volume knob is dodgy so is refunding me £20.

I was watching a Dean MLX last week, forgot to bid on it. It had a Duncan Dimebucker in it.
Went for £84!!!! I couldn't believe I forgot to bid on the bastard, what a bargain.

I can't be totally sure from the pictures, but it does look like the writing on the pickups is Duncan Designed. I remember it looking smaller than the Seymour Duncan logos that you would get on a genuine set. The chrome hardware would also point to it being DD pickups as well. Still, it's an excellent deal, especially since you're getting a hard case too.

Hopefully the volume knob problem is just bad solder or something simple like that rather than having to replace parts.

Turns out its not Seymour Duncans in it, like the guy said. It's the crappy Duncan Designed things which I'd have to replace.
Now I'm not so sure I want the thing any more.

I've done the old "This guitar? I've had this for years" trick before - but that was with a normal looking guitar. My wife would not have missed a Kelly, so I can't really say I've had it for ages!

Okay, the guy offered me some money off since it's not genuine Duncans in there.

Anyone ever tried a Seymour Duncan Custom 5 in the bridge of a KE3?

I've noticed Harmony Central has "Marty Friedman Model KE3" reviews. What exactly are these?
And how come this one I've bought has reverse sharkfins - I can't find any info on other KE3s with those.

They came with reverse sharkies 96-2002. They changed the hardware from black parts and jackson pickups to chrome and DD's in 1999 IIRC, so yours is probably 99-2001. I have one of the older ones with no neck plate, 96 I guess. Nice guitars for the money.

                            Thanks for the info buddy!
However, the KE3 Reverse, in the catalog scan you posted, also has a reverse headstock. The one I've bought has a normal headstock with reverse sharkfins?

Look closely at the regular headstock ke3 in the catalog scan

I stuck a JB in mine. Interestingly it sound pretty bassy compared to the other Jacksons I have/had. One more tip; stick a dimarzio cliplock on it and it doesn't neck dive so much.
