  • New pickups in DXMG

Hey Guys! I ripped those EMG-HZs out of my DXMG and replaced them with SD TB-10s, one white the other black, I put the white one in the bridge position. The neck was way to dark so I swapped out the pots for 1meg pots and made the tone a volume pot and now it toggles like a Les Paul. And the 1 megs really let these pickups scream. Has anyone else done this?

    Later!

I'm not too crazy about the Hz myself. I have the same guitar. I plan on swapping them out. Looking at either Dimarzio or Seymour Duncans. How big of a difference did the change make?

If you bought two TB-10s, the neck pickup won't line up with the strings correctly. You should have got a TB-10 and an SH-10.
Not that it'll really make much of a difference, but if you bought them new that's what I'd have done.
I've got a few Duncans, I love them, but I've never tried a Full Shred. Have you ever played any other Duncans? How does the Full Shred compare to something like a JB?

I have never used that pickup, but a lot of my guitars have the 1 Meg pot mod. You're right, the 1 Megs really open up the sound. My pickups sound louder and have a better sound (I think, anyway) From what I remember reading, the 1 Meg pots give a similar effect as wiring the pickups straight to the output jack.

At least I'm not the only maniac who does it that way!!!!!

When I bought the pickups I ordered them online from a shop going out of busines. All they had left were the TB-10's so I put them in anyway. These pickups are SEYMOR DUNCAN that says it all. I like them better than the JBs. As far as string lineup it doesn't really matter. They pick up the signal just fine. And now that I have both pickups with a volume I can blend them together.

                Ha ha, quite!

Seriously, I wasn't trying to say they suck or anything, just that if you bought them new it would have made sense to only get one trembucker.
But like I said, it won't really make any difference - I had an SH-5 in my RR3 at one point and it worked fine and looked fine too unless you looked really close.

The DXMG is a great guitar just asking for some decent pickups! I installed a Duncan Jazz, and a JB, then swapped the JB for a Screamin' Demon, I also replaced the volume pot with a push/pull switch to split the coils, and added an OFR. The 1 Meg pot idea sounds crazy!
