the pro series is a great line. i love my RR5. the only reason its being upgraded at all is because the gold hardware on every guitar always fades and looks like poop.

the only USA select axe i really want might be the KV2. that thing plays so freaking sweet it makes me wanna slap my momma.
good tone isn't something you learn, its something you develop.

And only the neck thru guitars had J serials. The rest had 6 digit serials on the neck plate.
My 1994 Kelly XL has a J serial on the back of the headstock... bolt on neck.. Is there any guitar manufacturer that ever did a good job of ID by serials??? They all suck!!

That serial number should indicate a 1990 guitar, but the Kelly Std. didn't debut until 1993. The bolt-ons with the "J" serials seem to have a different numbering rule than the neckthrus. Very strange.

Suggest you pull the neck & check the pocket. Might be a date in there.

That specific model was only featured in the 1993 and 1994-95 catalogs, so it's a pretty narrow age range you're looking at. There might not be any way to date it more specifically than that.

Pulling the neck will be difficult, because it is not my guitar - I thought about to buy it. I already played her and she sounds perfect and just some scratches at the body. I am not really into the prices for such older guitars, he seems to be serious, so what is she worth?

The low-end Jackson Professionals from the early '90s, like this one, typically sell for $300 to $350 in the USA if they're in good shape, which this one appears to be.

Mine is a neck-thru professional from 1991. Seven digit serial starting with J. Only defect is a tiny chip on the paint. Any thoughts on pricing?

                                Pricing is a tricky subject.
A neck thru Pro in almost new condition could easily fetch $800+. A motivated buyer may pay a fair amount more, it's really hard to say. Just my opinion and opinions will no doubt vary.

                                96xxxxx, 97xxxxx and 98xxxxx serials oftentimes don't indicate '96, '97 and '98.
