I have a Japanese made DK2. It is a nicely made guitar , but sounds dark and toneless compared to my USA Jacksons. It has the Duncan Designed pickups. I suspect the pickups are not that great, but I also would like to know what the body wood might be. I would like to modify the guitar to make a more useful player, but do not want to proceed until I have all the facts.

Alder (At least the new ones are). Those Duncan Design pickups are pretty weak. I tried a DK2 with them and was not impressed. The real Duncans are way better."Dear Dr. Bill,

The dark/dull tone is the trem. Put a real Floyd Rose on it, you'll be amazed.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

my DK2 was a great player, and sounded really clear/crisp, once I'd swapped the pickups !Comment

The newer ones with the real SD's sound fine and the guitar plays and sounds even better with an OFR.There is no "team" in "Fuck You!"

I picked up a used DK2 (Blue/Orange Flame) and noticed that the trem was "modified" by putting a screw in the trem cavity to "block" the trem to make it dive only, no pull ups. I have to say I like the way it plays now. I was never really into pulling up on the trem, just a little dives now and then. I think the floyd resting on the screw gives it a little more sustain too. Also I put in a Duncan Distortion Trembucker and the thing wails now.Guitars:
