  • RR3 question

Hey im new to the forum but not new to Jackson guitars. im currently selling an ibanez to a friend in hopes to buy a used RR3 from another friend. i have always loved the RR's and had trouble picking between an RR3 and a Ke3 about two years back and went with the kelly (with skull graphic) and now i have another opportunity to get a RR3.

He's selling it for about $300 supposedly in great condition is this a fair price?

    Thanks.

For that price it sounds great. I also have a KE3 and an RR3. I prefer the KE3, but both are great.

Well i have an rr3 and i love it even tho it has duncan designed pup's in it they still do what i need them to. I will how ever change them out later on for some real duncans or dual emg 81's. As for the price 300 is about a round number when it comes to the guitars many factors make the price go up or down depending on what it has on it.

yea my ke3 has a emg 81 85 set in it so i want to do real duncans in the rr3 but i dont know if ill keep the stock pups even if they are duncans i tend to change the electronics of all my guitars. there just always seems to be something that sounds better.

since were on the subject what do you guys recommend for pups if im heading in that direction?

I have an RR3 that I picked up new at Guitar Center for $299. It was hanging on the wall for awhile and had a chip on the longer horn. No biggie. It came with the Duncan designed Detonators which sounded really good but I wanted better. I orginally put ina Duncan Destortion/Jazz set and it sounded even better. But eventually I changed them out for a set of EMG's (81 & 85) and I am glad I did. I love those pickups in there. It really screams now.

I would say that either the EMG's or Duncans would go very well in it. It's up to you and your budget. But keeping the "Designed" pickups in there is fine too. It's all about the sound you are looking for. Good luck!

yea. i think im gonna end up putting blackouts in it. cuz i already have an 81 85 set and i like the blackouts. that will give me a good reason to play the two guitars for different music that way they all get played equally.

was gonna get the guitar today but my friend who wants to buy my ibanez told me he wouldn't have the money till wednesday so now i have to wait till then. but i did get to see the rr3 today. its one of the older ones that came with the duncan designs and the chrome hardware. found out hes got a v case for it too that hes gonna sell me for $100 so $400 for the whole setup i think its still a good deal the guitar was in perfect condition apparently he never plays it. a friend told me he bought it played it at two shows in high school and put it in its case never to see the light of day again. kinda sad ill be sure to give it lots of play time.
