Yet another Dinky ID thread -- newbie post

Hi all,
I've definitely done a lot of digging, but I'm still new to the Dinky. And I know they can vary wildly based on year of construction, options, etc. Can anyone help ID this one for sure?

From my digging, It sounds like a 1998 Dinky from Japan. FR is licensed, Pups are Duncan Designed... I'd like it to be my first Jackson.

Questions:
1. What model is it?
2. What do I look for (potential problem areas) when I see it in person?
3. What do you think a good price would be? It's been up at that price for a couple weeks...

It's a DK2 and $300 is a great price.
They were introduced in 1998 and are still made today.
Given the chrome hardware and DD pickups, yours was made sometime between 1998 and 2005.
In 2005, they went to black hardware and real Seymour Duncan pickups.

LOVE my DK2, very solid guitar.Paint is good, bindings are flawless, sharkfins are fitted well even if they are plastic. The licensed trem is really good, as I flog mine daily with no problems.
Pickups are so so.

I changed out my bridge pickup to a SD Distortion and have no complaints.

Quick question -- It seems I have the option of purchasing a DK2 off craigslist or a DKMG at a GC for the same price ($300) - Both used.

In my particular situation, what do you recommend? I'm after:

- Good beginner/intermediate player
- Mostly be playing hard rock/metal, but some "cleaner" stuff too
- There's some (maybe not much) to GC's return policy

Any thoughts out there? I'm buying something today! Thanks

My personal preference is the DK2.
A tad more versatile than a DKMG and I hate the Piranha inlays on the DKMG.

They both are. I'd take the DK2. I have one and it's great. I think it would be much more versatile than the DKMG would be.

Either way you're in good shape.
Given the two, I would also pick the DK2.

And I do like the piranha inlays.

I stopped by GC, and the DKMG they had was pretty rough. Tons of swirl marks, missing Tone knob, the volume knob was obvious loose, one of the strap buttons was loose (I assume stripped to some degree), and bunches of dings in the body. It played ok, but it didn't rub me the right way.

I stopped by this guys' house to look at his DK2 (the one I posted previously in the thread). I saw it, I looked it over, and bought it!

I searched through the forums enough to know that if someone posts news like this and doesn't post pics, they get a beat down - or at least the little "smiley" that says "This thread is useless without photos" or something similar. I'm not about to make the same mistake...
