    What the fuck?

Thats gunna play havoc on your tone man, so much shit in the series. RR3 with has a complex circuit to begin with, with the two volume knobs, so you want to add an out of phase switch, which doesnt do a whole lot, and a coil switch, so you can make a perfectly good humbucker go half volume and sound really thin and crappy. I'd say just save that 100 bucks worth of work and buy a squier telecaster if you want a snappy sounding guitar as well. As for the extra tone knob, are you serious? If anything get rid of the tone knob all together from the wiring, dump one of the volumes and just run a master volume. Thats exactly what my RR24 runs at, with just one pickup, I get thet most vibrant clean, and smoothest chocolate brownsound overdrive ever, and then when I kick in my wylde overdrive, its brutal metal all the sudden.

Just leave the pickup switch for your two pickups, and have a master volume, way less stuff blocking up your tone, Take the wet blanket off your tone.

Nice pickup choice though, Stock RR1 pickups, no? I have all EMG's but highend duncans are decent too.

Thanks for the advice man. You're totally right about the tone knob. I rarely ever even change the tone knobs from full on anyway, so I may just bypass it altogether. I'm going to leave the volume knobs though. I like to have the 2 at different volumes sometimes.

I have no desire what so ever for this thing to sound like a telecaster. At all.

I had EMG's in my DKMG and really liked them, but they aren't what I'm looking for with this one. I've played the RR5 many times and loved the sound of the pickups. I knew it had a JB and Jazz stock so that's where I started with that decision. I spent hours listening to the sound clips of different pickups on the SD website (I know they will sound different in different guitars, but it at least gave me some perspective) until I finally decided to just stick with the JB & Jazz. It was pretty easy to decide to leave the JB in the bridge, but I was considering doing a '59 in the neck for a bit.

      Thanks again for your help...

      Locking Tuners anybody???

I don't think it's gonna cost $100 to put in a couple of pots. You can get a push/pull pot for about $10 or less, and fit it yourself in a few minutes.
I agree with vampire though, not a whole lot of point in it, unless you're going to be playing country music or something. The Jazz is a great pickup for cleans, you don't really need to split it.

I also wouldn't remove any pots, at least until you hear how it sounds as it is.

If you want to mod your RR3, take a look at www.fretsonthenet.com - the guy is a poster on here, and he's a top guy.
He did the red pearl parts for my RR3 (Blackouts):

Sure it does. A phase switch will put the two pickups out of phase with each other... that means both pickups have to be on together, and it gives them a thinner sound, which some people really like for clean tones (I personally like it).

Theres that, or you can get the out of phase with itself thing going on, where you get the two coils of one humbucker to be out of phase, i read about it somewhere. I still would rather just buy a squier tele for that if I really wanted that honky sort of thing. Which lately I have been playing quite a bit of for some reason. I'd just get a telecaster and be done with it.

Nope sorry. Why do you want locking tuners? Are you doing away with the locking nut?

The ivory RR3 doesn't have a locking nut or a floyd rose. it's made like the RR5 with a string through body. Hence, locking tuners

So apparently the Planet Waves auto trimming tuners will fit, but I'm not crazy about the way they look. And wouldn't they make it impossible if you wanted to change tunings every now and then? The mini Schallers are supposed to fit to so I'll probably just go with those.

I also picked up a new truss rod cover, the gold pickup rings to go over the black ones and replacement knobs. Same style as the stock ones with black pearl tops. Should hopefully have pics of the final product by the end of the month...

Got the zebra JB & Jazz Model in today. SEX!

Phase shifting and even basic splitting can brighten up your cleans. Unless all you're playing is early Slayer, you might want to go with at least a splitter for the neck pickup by way of the push/pull.

As well, you can split both pickups for a completely different clean tone than either pickup will offer separately. You may have to wire them so they're not out of phase with each other when split.

The "honky clean" can actually be a benefit to help stand out in the mix, since it's similar to boosting the midrange frequencies for the same reason, but doesn't add an extra pedal in your signal chain to do it.

Sperzel locking tuners will fit. They have little set pins in them that do not line up with any known tuner (as far as I know), so you'll have to remove them, but the tuners will stay in place once they're mounted.

Similarly, if you're playing MODERN Slayer, you might want a splitter for the bridge pickup, since Slayer these days sound like they're using single coils anyway, their tone is so weak.
