  • King V Pro serials?

Hi guys! Anyone here a serial expert? I looked on Jackson's site but Im suspecting they dont cover the old Pro series there... but perhaps I'm wrong. Either way I can't seem to figure these out.

I have two King V Pros. And I'm curious when they were built. Can you tell by the serials? Here they are:

    J401765
    J400670

    Thanks in advance!

Sure. The 2nd digit refers to the production year. So, 1994 for both.

Ron, does that mean my Kelly Std was made in 2000? It's got serial# J006825. I didn't think they made them that early.

I think the year=first digit thing only applies to the neckthrus. My Kelly is J008207 and I think it is was made in 96. Right Ron?
I feel festive all year round. Deal with it.

Interesting info. Thanks! I always wondered about them, so at least now I know for sure!

            Yes and no.
The early "Professional" series bolt-on used the first digit in the serial as the year of manufacture as well. This supposedly lasted until 1996, but I have seen a few import plates that started with a 7.

Since the Kelly (Professional series) wasn't introduced until 1993, it's obvious that a neck thru Kelly with a J0xxxxx serial is not from 1990.

The interesting ones are the Kelly's that were bolt-on, but didn't have a neck plate.
I have no clue how they determined the serial numbers for those.

I'll defer to RJ on this one. Just don't listen to Newc!

RJ, didn't they have a sticker on the back of the headstock?

Yeah, the ones without a neckplate had either a sticker on the head or were stamped into the board like the JJ. I think the JJ was the only one done that way, though. My JTX's all had stickers, and they had "J0" serials (which totally screwed up the continuity - why doesn't anyone think of this stuff when they're making it up? )

Anyhoo, yeah, Ron's right - until I get my head back on straight, double-check any serial # info I give you with regards to years

Actually, Newc, didn't you have a few KV Pros? IIRC I was gonna buy one off ya...

                    Yes, they had the sticker.
But they were bolt-ons that followed the neck thru serial scheme.
I just haven't seen enough of them to determine if the number after they J indicated year or was it just a sequential number.

Well, mine has the sticker, and it's definitely not made in 1990. I'll just leave my guess at 1994.
