  • RR5 humbucker question

i'm planning on adding a humbucker to my telecaster and i THINK that my RR5 has the same SH-4 humbucker in the neck AND trem positions. what i want to do is install the neck SH-4 from the jackson into the telecaster and then get a duncan '59 for the RR5 neck to give the old girl some more tone.

does my plan sound feasible to you guys or is there something i'm not seeing that's gonna bite me in the butt along the way?
good tone isn't something you learn, its something you develop.

The sh4 in the rr5 neck position is low output compared to the one in the bridge. You probably won't be too happy.

No, it's the same output... there is only one version of the JB and not a calibrated neck version.

well crap now im even more confused. my gut says toejam is right, why would the other guy think the neck position would be different?

this information determines whether i convert the tele to one humbucker and keep the purdy single coil at the neck or go full on EMG 81/60 chrome (which is far more expensive but would be pretty cool in itself).

Toejam's right. I posted without looking it up. Many of the seymour duncan pickups have a neck and bridge version including the distortion which is the ceramic magnet version of the JB.
When you have 2 of the same output pickups the neck pickup is going to be much louder.

Sounds like a good plan to me, a 59 in the neck will sound sweet.
