  • Jackson kelly (KE3) help

hey guys, this is my first post.
im anth and i own a jackson RR3, and plan to stick with jackson from now on.

im interested in the KE3, but dont have access to any to play round here.
i will be buying used, as retail in Aussie dollars is way more than i could afford.

just wanting to know how the Jap kelly compares to my jap Rhoads. specs are fairly similar, but would like an opinion from someone who has played/owns both.

hows the thickness of the neck compared to the RR3? ive read kellys have the thinnest jackson necks?

and also hows the upper fret access?

    any help is much appreciated,
    Anth

I had both, only recently sold the RR3. They both have the same neck as far as I could tell. The upper fret access on the KE3 isn't as good as either the RR3 or even my SL3, although it's still alright.
Overall, if you love the RR3, you'll love the KE3, they're very similar. I personally prefer the look of my KE3, which was why I sold the RR3 after having it for years.
I also put a DK2 neck on the KE3, looks and plays fantastic.

Ke3's are great guitars, beware however they will make you want a usa version. The 'jap' guitars are normally on a level of great playability.

I have both a kelly and rr3, IMHO after a pup change thier both great guitars - the rr hangs differently while playing but something that's very easy to get used too!

          thanks for the replies guys

          KE3 retail for about AU$1500

USA is pretty much out of the question = AU$4500+ lol

im very happy with my RR3, i got that used and love the neck on that.
          i like the JB/Jazz combo.
i can handle the bolt on neck on that - got no probs sweeping on the upper frets.

guess ill keep an eye out on the bay for a cheap Kelly, or maybe try a 90's model?

          thanks again mates
