  • Jackson JDR 94 or JSX-94

    Guys,
In my research into Jackson Guitars I have come to find out about these two models. I found out two examples of each and I am considering purchasing an example of each, thoughts and opinions before I purchase, I understand that it is entirely how they play for me, but if anyone has knowledge or insight on these two models, please share. I haven't played either yet and I can always return them as I am going through GC. For the price of both, they are less than a new base line Japanese dinky. To me that's a deal! Opinions, please.

Great playing guitars but the pickups do sound good but are weak and the hardware is cheap, but can be upgraded to a schaller trem easily.

I like the idea of a "94 model, made in Japan, how do they compare to today's japanese models?

Depends on the model. The performers are at about the same level as the x series.

I was my understanding that performers were Korean made? Is this not correct? I see a lot of cheap base model performers and professionals, I could buy five or six base model professionals for the same price as a professional pro or an American Jackson, and to be honest the dirty blond I own now is just as nice as most higher end American guitars I have owned or seen. My highway one strat is great, but I would put up my blond against build quality wise any day. I think its nicer than my American Les Paul studio that I own. Just my opinion.

sorry forgot the concepts were 94 and became the performers. The first few years of the performers were japan. The guitars that say professional on the headstock are the better guitars espcialy if they are from the early 90's

I've got a JDR-94 and it's great for what I paid. I put a Bill Lawrence USA 500XL in the bridge and a Seymour Duncan A2Pro in the neck, they give great tonal options with the stock middle coil (I did get a Duncan A2Pro single coil to put in it, but it didn't fit, you need to watch that if replacing the single coils in these).
It has a thin neck and, apart from the trem and crappy stock pickups I'd say it's almost on a par with the DK2 or DK2M although none of them come close to the SL3.

One thing - I'm not sure why, but I seem to hit the volume knob by accident on this guitar more than I do on any of my other ones. I even fitted slightly smaller control knobs, but it still happens.

I feel for the money and the quality it is worth getting, how does its build quality compare to say the new japanese dinkys? Same, worse, or better?

                    Gentlemen,
Thanks for your input, Guitar Center seems not to want my cash for one of these. I have called twice to have pictures sent to me and not one sales person can do that, GRRRR!

Martinbarre... can you expland on the single coil fit issue please? I'm putting a JB/Jazz in mine and was trying to figure out which SD single I wanted for the middle. Don't want to buy one and have it not fit... that'd suck!!

Okay, I know you get what I meant since you PMd me, but I'll post this anyway for future generations of JDR owners.

                            This wont fit a JDR:

You need something like this (see the difference?):

According to the times of your posts, it looks like you only worked for 57 minutes.
I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone.
