  • Shark Fin Inlays on my PS-5

I am looking to find Jackson sharkfin inlays or some sort of decals for the bass. I am custom painting my Jackson from the dark maroon color to a sparkled black color. It is getting a Badass 2 bridge and Di Marzio pickups. However, I need to know if anyone sells these decals or inlays for the bass. Thanks for the help!

there's the ebay sellers who sells thin stickers. A friend bought the set of square "blocks" for his homemade bass and they worked, never fell off, and were thin enough not to interfere with his playing.

the only stores on ebay selling fins are actual inlays, no stickers this week.

DiMarzio DP126BK's. I have actually decided to paint the Jackson gloss black with a lava lamp looking graphic. Look up the Monster Nitrous energy drink can and thats what it will look like. (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2540/...dd4b8cfbfb.jpg) Just without the Monster logos and everything. Then I am printing out a picture of Cliff Burton and having him clear coated onto the back of the body where it will be all black. It's nice to work at a car parts store with a paint store in back.

In an ironic twist, note the "Anti Gravity" on the can...

I found some on ebay and now the problem is my original dot inlays. Is there a way I can make it to where the dots don't peek out from the sharkfins? I really like the Jackson sharkfin look and I love this neck wayyyy too much to use ti for parts and buy a CMG neck. (plus I'm cheap.) Let me know if you guys have any ideas on what I could do. Thanks!

              oh YA lava paint!!!

and no, I don't think a CMG neck will just bolt on without modding....I tried that on my CHS using one of my other Charvie necks...YMMV

haha I still love that firecrackle on the Charvel. Well, I may have to do something to paint over these dots. I have seen one guy use a brown marker to do it, but if I were to find dark brown model car paint do you guys think it would stick to the inlay material? Or should I try and scuff some of the inlay with fine grit sand paper?

well since the inlay dots are recessed ( flush ), wouldn't the sticker just cover it without any changes or hassle? I never tried them so I don't know, only saw my friends after he added his, and never asked him what he did to prepare the fretboard... and your idea of the lava paint is great!!

I would love to find out if they ever did a white crackle

well, i am no expert but i would use a scotchbright just to ruff the dots up a tad. i would go with a black trans stain or something maybe even black sharpie - i love those things. i bet brown would just look like you tried to cover them up. it will be tough to match it up. what about red? just a thought...

Yeah I am really excited to see how it turns out. Well maybe I will do that scotch brite thing to rough em up a bit. I kind of like the black color idead on the dots, but I think if I were to brown em out they would look cleaner. The sharkfins I am getting come down diagonally and miss about half of the dot. So I need to get some sort of paint over them to camouflage them into the fret board.

I didn't know they were "not" full size fins...my mistake I always think they just have enough width/length to cover anything up.

Well, I have taken some model car paint and match it to the fret board brown. They turned out very well. I have to put a very think layer of clear coat on. I measured the thickness of the paint and it all seems level. Now I have to wait for the sharkfin decals. I also was curious...how much is it to have new inlays installed by a guitar shop? I found actual sharkfin inlays and was thinking of my options.

maybe someone in here will know how much they were charged for an install, or could recommend someon you can call for a quote ----
I said before I tried to get my CharvieNeck on my CHS, that wouldn't work, but the neck swaps fit between my model series.

                            here's my swap necked pair:
