  • What's with all the piezo Concerts on eBay?

There have now been two San Dimas-era Concert basses with the all-piezo electronics package on eBay recently, and the '85 is back up (must have been a non-paying bidder).

Does anyone have experience with these? My understanding is that piezos on bass are primarily useful for blending, and not for use all by themselves unless you are going for a fake-acoustic sound. I have a hard time picturing one of these driving an SVT to the breaking point...

I can't justify paying this kind of money right now, but down the line I'm going to want to get an '80s Concert. I had J0762 awhile back, but sold it when I went all 5-string for awhile.

actually that 85 was a reserve-not-met, it was 1400, now the BIN is 1200.

would I buy one to play? ...NOPE.
would I buy one for rarity?..yep.

I hate that thing as much as I did with the model1b in 1986 ( the only year with a bridge humbucker and not a p. )

    #1 ugly as sin
    #2 not for me

however, I never played a peizo-only solid body bass, so I cannot give an opinion of what it would sound like.. I know they work great on acoustics, and like you said, as a supplement to the normal pups.

Actually, a friend of mine had one back in '88. Black-Blue Bengal and piezos only. Sounded phenomenal, not at all like an acoustic.

However, as I understand it, those piezo transducers under the bridge were prone to breakage from the vibrations.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Did you grab it? That was a silly low price for it. Now I'm wishing I had bid. Another interesting '80s Concert has magically showed up at a low starting price--this one with a P/H pickup combo. Could be interesting.

ya I saw that p/HB on ebay--the first one that is 1500, and the second which I will probably be outbid on the last minute of the last day... 2 old p/HB basses on ebay within the same week? WOW

and just AFTER I bought a lefty 2b off MusicGoRound

AND BOUGHT this J40 to make MY OWN p/HB -- screw those outrageous prices when I can put together the same thing!!

                I'm guessing a 1B?

Is that the same pickup that they used on that '86 1B with the weird controls and other basses with bridge humbuggys or is that just a guitar pickup that you're going to stick in a bass?
