  • serial number mystery

hey everybody! i just scored a sweet neck thru, active charvel with serial # c606239. it looks exactly like a purple-ish 4b i saw posted on here. has anyone had any luck deciphering the serial numbers beginning with the letter c? does the c stand for charvel or possibly for canada (since some instruments were built in ontario)???
either way the tone of this bass is amazing. reminds me of the bass tone on "operation mindcrime". any info or links would be greatly appreciated, since charvel seems to be either out of business or unable or unwilling to help identify their instruments by serial #.

"Ontario" is also in California. Jacksons were never made in Canada.

The "C" on neckthrough Charvels denotes "Charvel neckthrough made in Japan". That's it.

      Hey ,

It would be cool if we could hook up. I have a Fusion that nails Queensryche stuff.

Don't know shit about basses, but it might be a good idea to post pictures. serial numbers can only go so far.

you mean my purple "3b". the others are right, the C6 means Charvel1986, the other way to tell is where the switch is positioned on the body ( outside/inside ) the knobs.

here's a pic of my purple and red 3b's the red one is a 87. ( the purple one now has a blend knob and no more switch )

Jap-a-nese and slowly as I use the units, I'm replacing all the switches with pots because the on/on/on thing is kinda lame and I like to be able to control how much of each pickup comes into the mix.

Read the previous posts please Charvels were never made in Canada!!
USA Charvels were made in California(San Dimas).99% were bolt on neck guitars/basses.
USA Charvels had gold logos with made in USA underneath and 3 on a side tuners(in the logo) Japanese Charvels had white logos with Charvel/Jackson underneath the logo and 6 in line tuners (in the logo).
