  • anyone ever see one of these Futura's before?

a friend asked me to buy it for my collection, which I am as the price is right no matter what it is, so my questions are:

has anyone ever seen a Futura with EMG's and a battery box on the back, a sharkneck made in India, string thru body setup.....what year they "could" have made this one, a prototype of some sort, or just another unit that never made it to the catalogs like the Eliminator-V, JPB, etc....

The trussrod cover looks huge but that's probably an optical illusion

the TR cover still has the plastic on it.

Thats all the pics gang till I buy it probably in the next couple weeks. I never saw a painted neck with crafted in india on the back even on the newer ones. perhaps some interim model, or something someone modded years ago. The seller bought it off someone who had it for a few years. The price is right so unless I'm the 3rd sucker in a row to fall for a fabulous fake, I'm just gonna go for it unless somehow I can prove it is a parts mutt, then it's "time to bargain"

I never saw one of these till it was for sale and was being shown in another thread here, so who knows....

Kinda the same with the Eliminator-V, nobody ever heard of them hence the few that are still around. I would still love to find out how many of those things they made

The plastic film makes it look half an inch thick on my blackberry. It seems like there are more of these bastard J/C basses coming out of the dark lately .I still only have seen 1 other 5 string like the one I have:

If the nut width is narrow like a Jazz bass, the TRC would look huge.

However, I still say it's a fake because the head is entirely wrong. It's too big for a 4-string, for one, and the angle of the low E from the nut to the tuner is too extreme for Jackson.

Then there's the WTF battery cover.

              I'd say avoid it, personally.

a fabulous fake I'm assuming...see there IS A GOOD REASON I talk on the JCF....

I was so excited to see something different I just put the blinders on.... yes Jackson never made a bound FB only without it going around the H-stock with a neck that was "crafted in India" right?

and I pulled up as many close-up headstock pics as I could from my photobucket and the nut does look smaller which would make the TR cover look bigger on that thing, but the string angle..hmm too hard to tell from the pics I'm comparing it to.

also no serial sticker or anything anywhere and the battery cover was something that i NEVER saw on ANY C/J before.

200 bucks though, I probably will just buy it anyway for the novelty

and NEWC, you made me look at a lot of other things on that thing that makes me go hmmm..

I emailed the guy to tell him it's a fabulous fake, the reasons it is not a real jackson, and see what his reaction is......

IMO, a "fabulous fake" is "good, but not the real thing", like the Edwards LPs that have all the right curves, or the lawsuit-era clones Gibson got all hairy about. This looks to me like it's "fake-ass shit".

                    Who knows, though?

well the story gets better. the seller said he bought it off someone who's brother worked at jackson after the fender takeover...oh GOD!!! the employee assembled it himself out of shelf parts??

I asked him to pull the bat cover, control cover pup and neck and look for any sigs/marks/stamps ANYTHING to verify the story he was told.

I could give a detailed description of what he said about the employee assembling it for himself, why it has no serial blah blah, but that first line was enough for me to say for him to keep it.... I offered him 200, but he said he would rather keep it, and was happy I found out all these discrepancies that proves it is a fake.

again a very nice looking unit and I would love to own it, but priced accordingly to what a fake would be worth to me to have in my collection.

Well, if you simply wanted something to use as a doorstop, paperweight, or to turn into a clock, yeah, but quite frankly if I got my hands on it, it'd end up in a fire.

This...is a nice bass. I can handle this. Course proof is in the sound and playability. Bridge kinda looks close to the edge there though, weird.

all the futuras are close to the edge of the body because of the scale length--vs--the shape of the body like that Concert...here's my old white futura....
