  • New here.

I'm awaiting a Kelly Bass for a restore/upgrade project. Any info about these would be cool. I'm most likely going full EMG pre/pu set after some external love. I'm on TB with the same user name, so I my be new here, but not to forums. Any info would be great, like places to get replacement parts.

Just sayin' welcome aboard. I'm sure one of the bass guru's here will chime in shortly with a great answer.

I've asked Amimbari a few questions in the past on TB. I finally got a Jackson for a project. I was going to remove the passive electronics and go full blown EMG X series P/Us and a BTC preamp, but I read where Amimbari suggested something else. I can't seem to find it now, so that info would be great for me to look over. I have almost always used active basses. Also, she has dot fret markers and I want to switch out the neck for sharkfins. So a neck source would be great unless I need to play the wait and hope game on TB and Ebay. She will most likely be getting a full blown airbrush paint job, so I'm not in a hurry to slap her together.

She came in the mail yesterday. I'll give her a listen tonight. She isn't in bad shape after all. The electronics need some TLC.

Any good/bad things about Audere pre amps? The have the exact setup I am looking for. https://www.audereaudio.com/scripts/...p?idProduct=84
Now to find pickups. The finish has some cracking in it running from the bridge to the neck pocket.

that is the top of the line preamp and many people on talkbass use those things daily.
and the crack is in the poly only probably right?

Most likely its just in the poly. I want to redo the finish completely because two of the horns are chipped. Still in great shape for the price and age of it. The dot fret markers are killing me though. It says it is made in Japan, but I'm not sure if they all were back then and if that is a good or bad thing. I'll have to research the serial number. it is going to be a work in progress. I'm in no rush to hot rod it and get it on stage. I want to do it right and with my own two hands as much as I feel comfortable doing.

Amimbari, with the info I have somewhat given so far, is it possible for you to recommend me a proper shark fin neck that will fit the neck pocket properly? I know it isn't necessary, but man would I like it to have one.

What pickup configuration does it have ? Soap bars ? My CMG has 35DC's and a BQS preamp, It sounds great. I may try swapping the neck DC for a Jazz.

measure the pocket to be sure and post the results.
