Seems like every metal bass player was influenced by him even I was somewhat...back 20 years ago!
But as I listen to him now in hindsight I must say that he is a very average player at best. He is one the most redundant players ever , same patterns over and over. What inspired me to post this is that I'm listening to Iron Maidens X Factor right now. There is what appears to be a first for Harris a solo spot on track 8 . He can't solo to save his life , his chops are extremely sloppy , lifeless and juvenile. What seemed as awesome two decades ago sure sounds silly to me right at this moment
But still Maiden is a major Metal institution and an old love of mine......Just thought I'd share those thoughts
In Summary Steve Harris : Overrated.........can't beleive he won all those awards back when shred was in it's heyday . He don't suck but he sure in the hell is not great by any stretch
Bill Z Bass
PS Don't even get me started on Geddy Lee
