    What is this thing??

    I have a Jackson professional bass here... The model appears to be JPB-7, ?? Not a regular pointy bass... 2 tuners to a side, dot inlays etc...

    It has a noisy little preamp built into it... It has 4 pots, three of the pots have a detent in the middle of the throw, and there seems to be only one volume control that affects anything...

    Can anyone tell about this preamp in particualr, or even about the bass?

    I take my hand off the strings and it buzzes like all hell... Jeez... Niiice preamp...

    sounds like a later model japanese concert bass...the buzz sounds like a ground problem...d.m.
    p.s. you want a copy of the devane album to review on your site? the only bad press is an obituary...lol

      That's one of those funky-shaped basses, right? Not like a Winger or Jazz, but kinda bulbous at the bottom and the horns spread out then curve back in sharply?

      Never played one - saw em in the Archives. The preamp might be the J2000 bass thing or someone could have switched it for the guitar preamp (J1000?) anyway, sounds like you need another ground wire in it.

        Hey there, a CD by YOU guys would likely be VERY cool... We'd enjoy hearing it. Is it online where I can get it or could be made available?

        Yeah, prolly ground weirdness, the switch jack took a dump tonight after I got all the work done one it now, so that was part of it I'm sure...

        J2000? Yeah, heard of it. But, I'm not hip to it. You know where I can get the lowdown on it? Or can you explain it some?

        I don't have an exact idea, it's sorta obvious as to it's genereal operation. But, I'd sure like to have a proper product description...

        Seems one pot is main volume, one pans between the pickups, and the other two are maybe bass and treble for the two pickups?

                Cleve - Yep, the J2000 bass board has Volume, Bass, and Treble (sometimes a Pan was used instead of a toggle switch). The Bass and Tone controls give 12 dB boost and cut at 40Hz and 2500Hz.

                  Thanx Newc, I'll forward that info to my customer. I finished the bass and sent it to him. But, he'll be very interested in knowing that exact info.
