  • EMG's in a Minion Bass?

Find many great new & used options and get the best deals for EMG PJ Active Bass Guitar Pickup Set Black at the best online prices at eBay! Free delivery for many products!

I have to pile on a lot of gain at the HZ input of my interface to get a reasonable signal out of my Minion Bass. Would fitting this EMG set improve the output signal?

you're plugged in with a guitar cable to one of the two inputs in the front of the unit? if that's the case, I would think the interface would have plenty of gain to work with passive pickups. if it doesn't (as you've indicated), getting louder pickups (active or passive... in my experience active emgs are not really louder than your general "hot" passives, though they may be more present) should help.

Preamp it? I'm not sure what you mean. Some circuit I can wire in?

EMG PA2 (EMG says it's for guitar but I can't imagine why it wouldn't work for bass)

Also the BTC system is interesting...https://www.emgpickups.com/catalog/p...z/category/89/

yes as an alternative you could always just leave the stock pickups in and add a preamp to it.
Or just toss a p/j set of emgs in it with the bas/treb/vol setup and use a stacked bas/tre pot so you can still keep the 3 knobs

Is it quiet in other circumstances or just with this interface? This just seems weird if it’s isolated only to this case use. I thought I had this problem once but it was interface issues and not my instruments. I ended up switching and issues disappeared.

The interface will give me enough gain, provided I crank it. My Warrior Pro has a Seymour Duncan Invader, a little too hot with the interfaces' gain at 0.

I have since sold off my Minion bass. I'm trying to decide whether to get a JS3 (Satin Black), JS3VQ or an X series David Ellefson 4 or 5 string (the latter has EMG's). I've never played a 5 string. Does having a real B string sound better than just putting a heavier guage string set on a 4 string and down tuning it?
