hi all, am new here so hello from scotland ! ..just got a lovely 2001 chlorine PC-1 that i really like. NOT a fan of the sustainer though, was wondering if anyone else in the same boat and have removed and replaced with a `normal` pickup ? maybe using the two switches as coil taps or series/ parallel options? thanks, rob

The Fernandes Sustainer is supposed to be more smoother sounding and better responsive. I've not tried it, but I didn't like the Sustainiac I had on an import. Anyway, I believe pics are required

      Ahh.... nooooo
If you insist on pulling the sustainer, PM me. I'll buy it off you or trade you some pickups/parts or whatever for it.
There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. Doing it the wrong way will trash it.

The switches are attached to the sustainer circuit board and cannot be reused.

If you do want to pull it, you should be ready to have the whole guitar rewired.
All the pickups route through the sustianers board and then to the selector switch.

The selector switch, volume and tone pots can all be reused.

Wow. It's not often you hear of someone that unhappy with the sustainor. Glad you like the guitar though.

Won't he have to replace almost everything inside? Aren't the knobs all connected to the internal circuit board?

thanks guys, i`m quite willing to do a rewiring job if needed. i havent decided whether i like the guitar enough to go to that amount of trouble, only had it a few days so i`m hoping it will grow on me..i got from some crazy dude who bought it in the states and brought it back here and never actually used it ! so it`s a 2001 chlorine that is completely brand spankin` new despite being 8yrs old. i love the look of it but am unsure of the neck size and obviously the sustainer isnt my thing. i`ll post some pics of the guitar later today after work. cheers , rob

I must say this is the first time I have heard of someone being on the fence with a PC-1...one of the finest axes there is...I hope it grows on you!! The sustainer can be versatile, it has intensity control...

Leave the sustainer...you'll regret it after it's out.

not really on the fence...i cant stop staring at it which cant be bad ! i`m getting used to the neck the more i play it as well. i think i`d be likely to remove and keep the sustainer though as it really doesnt fit my style of playing.it can always be refitted if i change my mind or decide to sell it on. i also like the fact that over here you never see these being played by anyone.

Welcome, always good to see another Scot here!! that takes us up to about 4

As I understand if you don't switch on the sustainer it's just a normal pick up , I would leave it well alone especially as your going to have to deavtivate all the circuitry and then be left with two switches that do bugger all.

Or I'll swap you my PC-3 for it!!

hi, thanks for advice...i`ve actually taken the batteries out and am running it as a `normal` pickup and i have to say the whole guitar sounds better like that i think ! always nice to hear from a fellow scot !

                        cheers, rob

Nice lookin' PC1 you got there. I'd sell the guitar for a dinky if you don't like the sustainer. I've got one that's a darker chlorine like yours and I just love the sustainer.

sold it, removing sustainer was more trouble than its worth, ordered a soloist instead though !
