  • Just received my new SL1, single coil vs humbucker talk

I love the new SL1 snow white soloist. It just arrived. I don't know how to post a pic yet.

    SL1 vs the SL2H:

Please describe the SL1 's single coil neck pickup vs the SL2H's Jazz neck Humbucker.

I don't hear much of a difference between the SL1's single coil neck pup compared to the SL1's bridge humbucker.

My friend is making fun of me for buying a guitar with 2 single coils. He says I should have gone with the SL2H.

I think you need to plug the guitar in to hear the difference...

SL2H comes with a 59n. I can't compare it to an SL1's single coil because I don't have one. If I did, my friend would make fun of me.

Seriously, the only thing that matters is do you like the guitar?

Do you like how it sounds?

If you are applying massive amounts of gain, you'll notice less of a difference between the bridge and neck.

If you are playing clean and still can't tell a difference, maybe guitar isn't for you?

Oh, and Welcome to the forum

You can't. You need to upload the pic to a site like www.photobucket.com and then you can paste it here. Welcome to the forum.

              BAMN IT !

Well, it is a snow white SL1, I am sure you've seen it.

I find I NEVER use my neck humbucker in my other guitars.
But I am always using the neck single coil in my Jackson now.

Would I be dissapointed if I switched the single coils to EMG's???

Looking for the same sound now, only with more output. Bright, without the mud !

i thought the neck (and middle) pup in the SL1 was a stacked coil? there are 4 wires coming from it, not 2 so i don't think its a true singlecoil. its also way to quiet to be a single coil.

I have the exact same guitar...
I'm a metal player mostly. I probably would have preferred an SL2 for a true humbucker. I put a BKP Holy Diver in the bridge and two SD Hot Rails in mine. I do like the guitar alot!

YUP ! thats the one !!!

I am an old metal guy trying to expand my sound horizin. I have had humbuckers my whole life !

I wanted a strat but the sound just wasn't for me. Now with the SL1 I have a strat on steroids.

I really have to crank my tube amp to get the sound right with the SL1, compared to other guitars. But that's a good thing though, that way the amp gets heated up nice !

The SL1 has stacked humbuckers. So, tell your friend that he's an asshole, and your guitar has "THREE HUMBUCKERS, SO EAT SHIT!"

I don't tend to use the neck pickup a lot in any case except for cleaner stuff and for clean bluesy stuff the neck single coil, er, humbucker, in the SL1 has a great tone. For heavier stuff I always use the bridge pickup anyway, so for me the SL1 has a nice versatility to it.

Tell your friends to buy you all the new USA Jacksons they want you to play, then they can bitch about the one you do play...
Bon Jovi is like a frozen Coca Cola.. It's cool, it's crunchy, but when all is said and done it is still pop....

The SL1 is a nice guitar and there is nothing wrong with having a hum/single/single pickup equipped guitar anyway. Your friend is the woosie if he thinks otherwise. You should notice a difference in sound between the pickups and various combinations of pickups as you flip the selector switch, I do on my SL1's.
