Jackson San Dimas value question

OK guys, here's the deal. I've been trying to land this guitar for about 9 years. It's one of the last Jackson's built in the San Dimas factory. I contacted Jackson long ago when I first found out the guy had it. It was shipped and sold in March of 1986. After years of trying to get this guitar from the owner I finally gave up. It's practically mint. Only one scratch to speak of, comes with original case, reciept and hang tags. I mean one this complete and condition is rare as you all know. This is the only original San Dimas I've ever found locally besides the two Charvels my old guitar teacher used to have. It's a metallic blue, ebony board, single hum with original floyd rose. This is the kind of floyd with the swinging arm type coller and flat head wood screws/no inserts. I went down to my local store today to find out the guy had traded it in and didn't call me to see if I was still interested! I called him every 3 months for 2 years checking on this guitar because he told me he was thinking of sellig it.... Very disappointing. Anyway, the store has alot of $$$ in it. The owner is really cool and knows my history with the guitar as well as how I am over Charvels and Jacksons. Point being I know that he wouldn't try to rip me in a case like this. He has $1700 in it and that's what he needs to get back out of it. Swinging that much $$$ is bought near impossible right now for me. If I don't get it then he's going to ebay it which I really don't want to happen. Do you all even think it's worth that much? It's a four digit serial number starting with 12. I don't want to give the full number because it's not mine. What do you all think? I'm VERY distraught over the whole thing! I've wanted this guitar for 9 years!!!!!!

Well it seems like you really want it so get it. Or maybe you can wait for it to go on ebay and possibly get it cheaper

Nope. It's pretty plain jane. It's a single hum bolt on with a floyd. It's just really clean, all original and has all the case candy and stuff with it.

If I had that much money to spare then I'd probably get it but I just don't. I could maybe squeeze out $1200 which I thought would be a fair price for it but I understand that he has alot in it. The guy traded it in on a Roland V drum set and a Dean Soltero.

talk to the store owner ask him to put it on lay away and pay him monthly or weekly . that way he can put it away for you while its being paid off

If they've got $1700 in it (doubt it) then once it hits Ebay that's going to be the Reserve or starting bid.

If you really want it that bad, sell what you can to buy it.

The same thing happened to me with BCR Bich Bass. I followed it for over 10 years, then found it hanging in a local Mom & Pop music store. The owner knew me and when I told him my history with it he let me trade a couple of guitars I didn't need EVEN for it.

Talk to them and see what they will do.

The Bich is a very early first-year production and is currently the only bass I own.

$1700 seems allot for a bolt on San Dimas strat.
Yes the factory Floyd, ebony fret board and sub 1505 serial number help but I would think 1200-1500 would be more in line - but as mentioned...you only live once!
If you really want it...grab it!

I paid 500 for my albeit an ontario but still an 86. Bolt on with a graphic. But the original pup had been swapped for an EMG 81. Needles to say i gangked that out and tossed in a an old JB. And its a match made in heaven. But that was several years ago when the market on these was softer. the one you speak of is a San Dimas with an ebony board and all original. But 1700 is a bit much. If it was a strat head charvel id say jump as high as you can and grab it. But it's not so if ya gotta have it do what ya gotta to get it.

I wouldn't pay anywhere near that. But, I don't really care about the whole San Dimas thing. I guess what I'm saying is, objectively, that's a shitload of money for an old guitar. If you think there is some "magic" about it in particular, then it's worth whatever you're willing to pay but personally I'd rather buy brand-new DK1 instead.

I'm not in the market for one, but that sounds way high to me as well. What's the hierarchy of value?

1. Pre-Pro Charvels
2. Serialized Stratheads
3. Pointy Charvels
4. Pointy San Dimas Jacksons

$1700 is WAY TOO HIGH. $1000 would be an entirely fair price.
