a - a Mom & Pop would have given someone that much cash for a pointy guitar
b - A big box store would have offered him like $200 for it
c - I could see maybe the store doing $500 and trying to sell it for $1700 once they learned it was "San Dimas" (that's not unheard of even in these parts)
I think $1700 is fantastic San Dimas Charvel pointy territory (but I could be wrong)...-------------------------

This guy knew what it was when he traded for it. He traded a set of Roland V drums and a Dean Soltero for it. Both were new items. I'm pretty sure he has $1700 or close to that in it.
I just talked with him and he said that he's going to keep it for a while since I can't get it right now. He said that he'd ask me again before he sold or ebayed it when he got ready to sell it.

Re-offer him the $1,200. Tell him that's the most that you can do, and that the offer is already a couple hun north of what the street value of the guitar really is. If he doesn't bite, don't sweat it. If he's really offering it out to the public at $1,700, that guitar will likely sit in his shop for a really long time. And he'll get more reasonable about the price with the longer it warms that peg.
BTW, what's the serial number? Does it have a Charvel or Jackson neck plate? Remember, the last few "Charvels" to come out of San Dimas had Jackson logos with Charvel neck plates. Some folks will pay a little extra for it having that unique "Charvel" end-of-era vibe.

I'm guessing this guy has about a $1,000 to $1,100 in it and wants his normal 50% return on investment.
As a dealer I wouldn't invest that much in it. I've picked up 87's from ontario for a 3rd of what hes asking.Last edited by atdguitars; 09-23-2009, 03:33 PM.

beachjammer is a great guy and if anyone deserves this San Dimas Jackson its him. I say go in there and offer him what you think you can pay and put cash down to put it in layaway. Good luck.Rudy

I don't know if you remember or not but I told you about finding this guitar many years ago and how I was trying to get it. I told my wife that the only guitar on this planet that would have tore me up more was if you offered me "Tigger" back! HAHA! That's how bad I've wanted this thing! Course I'd refinance the house to get "Tigger" back but that's another story ;O) When the rubber hits the road though I just don't have that much to put into it. I offered what I could, which I thought was a fair price ($1200 cash) and he didn't take it. I'm still layed off and in school so it's not like I can squeeze anymore blood out of the turnip if you know what I mean.... This has made me so distraught!!!!!!

Beachjammer I think 1200 was more than fair for a Jackson branded late San Dimas. I agree with others that he probably has around a grand or less in it. If he is a C/J dealer then he is going to use that guitar as "candy" a common trick to help sell newer guitars. You nark the really good guitars way up to make the others look cheaper. In the case of J/C then it looks reasonable to ask 17 considering the priceing of both the lower and higher-end C/J products.
He's holdiing it because they are hard to get more of since they aren't built anymore. He can't easily replace it on his wall. Also, the truth may be the the guitar is actually consigned and no one is admitting to it..
I would be surprised if he comes off of the price very much until HE NEEDS to sell it. With bolt-on Jacksons wearing the SD route and SD plates bringing anywhere from 500-1000 then 1700 is hard to take.
As a guitar I'd offer him 12 and walk because that's what you can afford.
In the market place it's hard to believe it will bring more..but I think the only way you get it is 17 because as I said, I really believe he is using it to help sell other guitars and has no real interest in selling it unless he can make a lot of money doing it. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.Last edited by 85 San Dimas; 09-25-2009, 11:29 PM.Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?
