    This!

It may not be "worth" $1700 but if you really want it bad enough you may just have to bite the pillow on this one....better than scouring want adds for the rest of your days looking for it.

That's the thing, if I had the $1700 I would bite the bullet and do it. The fact is that I don't and I don't have a way of currently getting that much at this time.

I don't know if you remember or not but I told you about finding this guitar many years ago and how I was trying to get it. I told my wife that the only guitar on this planet that would have tore me up more was if you offered me "Tigger" back! HAHA! That's how bad I've wanted this thing! Course I'd refinance the house to get "Tigger" back but that's another story ;O) When the rubber hits the road though I just don't have that much to put into it. I offered what I could, which I thought was a fair price ($1200 cash) and he didn't take it. I'm still layed off and in school so it's not like I can squeeze anymore blood out of the turnip if you know what I mean.... This has made me so distraught!!!!!!
Hi Keith; Yes I do indeed remember you telling me about how you wanted this guitar quite a while back. He may have turned down $1200 but I'd try again by going in there and putting down on his counter, right before his eyes, 12 crispy $100 bills and see what happens. In this economy he's not likely to get much more than that for it and 12 on the counter looks better to a store owner than 1 on the wall If he still turns it down then one of two things happened:
          A. He over paid for the guitar and will be stuck with it for a long time because I doubt he will get anywhere near $1700 for it on E-Bay or elsewhere for that matter.
          or...
          B. The guy simply wants it for himself personally and is not interested in selling it.
As for as Tigger goes, it will be staying here with me but you know that if I ever thought about selling it you would get first shot at it. And no, I would not just say that to you and then turn around and sell it to the store who got the San Dimas Jackson

But he already stated that he doesn't have much more gear to sell off. And I believe him, I've known Keith from previous guitar dealings with him and this SD Jackson was always one he wanted. I've bought some stuff from Keith before and must say he has great taste when it comes to guitars

$1200 is a very nice offer from you.... Keep offering and maybe he will give in. I have a very simlilar guitar no case candy 12XX SD Jackson strat while I wouldn't take $1200 for it either that is considerable more than I paid for it. I really find it hard to believe he paid any where near 1K for it since he probably took it in on trade. The last one I saw on Ebay was an early ontario Strat Maple board pointy and i seem to remember it going for around $600. I would have snatched that up but I didn't find it till after the auction was over.

Yeah, I just saw a dual hum built 3 months after this one with a date of 6/86 and it sold for $750 shipped. I almost jumped on it to ease the pain but it doesn't have the sentimental value this one does. Plus it was built in Ontario even though SD parts were probably used. It's partly a nostalga thing for me as well to finally have an original San Dimas.

if thats the guitar i think it is, its a very odd jackson. check the date it basically nullifies the serial# chart, & makes me think the dates in the pocket & on the heal are far better for determining SD or ontario made bolt ons. its not the only example of jackson boltons ive seen that do not jive with the serial # chart.

I payed $1200 for my 86 Soloist in 9/10 but that was January 08. $1700 seems like alot for a bolt on. MHO

I say play the long game. He isnt going to get that much for it. Sometimes you have to pay a bit extra when Gas gets you but not that much.
He probably knows how much you want it and is banking on you meeting his price or near enough.

He'll come to you. Be cool.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.

I say don't buy it for that much. I understand the sentimental value, but in the end it's just a guitar. And nothing especially rare or crazy.

It seems crazy to think that a J/C dealer would really have $1,700 into that thing, because it's really not worth anywhere near that much.

Right now there is an 86 Jackson San Dimas on Ebay 22 fret single humbucker with the planets graphics. Pick it up and play it while thinking about the other guitar. LOL. Either way man good luck I hope you get what you're after. By the way I have seen this guitar it was at a guitar shop not to far from where I'm at. I looked at the last time I was in there. It's a beautiful guitar but when your unemployed as long as I've been it just aswell had been a million dollars, I wouldn't have the money for it. If I had it though I would have been it's owner that day.

I want to go out nice and peaceful in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming and hollering like the passengers in his car.

+1. No dealer planning to actually stay in business would (in his right mind) sink that much into it in this market. He would have to mark it up a minimum of 20-25% just to cover overhead and break even. Another 10 percent to make money and you'd be looking at a tagged price of $2200 .
IMHO he thinks he has a "big one" on the end of his fishin' line. But so as you feel you need to do and good luck.
Why the hell doesn't Eddie pick up a goddamned guitar and play something?

The guitar is worth $700 maybe $800 at the most. I have one and I didn't pay 1700 for it.
                                It's pronounced soops
