> It all depends on the wood and how it was colored. Some use a normal wood stain. Others use a DYE to achieve the desired coloration. Then there are others that leave the wood unstained and add color to the clearcoat.
I have a one of a kind Schon pool cue that is stained about like that,over curly maple. It was stained black,sanded lightly,then stained brown. Some woods just absorb more color than others,regardless of whether true stains or dye was used. Tommy D.
