Hey guys,
I've just been offered a trade for a supposedly 1991 USA SL-1 with lightning bolt graphics. Condition seems to be okay... has the same bridge as my 1989 Custom Soloist, but the guy says there isn't a serial number. Are these guitars regularly faked? If there's no serial for sure, I think I'll pass--probably points to it having been stolen at some point, if not an out and out fake--but are there any other points that would make a fake easy to tell, such as how on the cheap Gibson copies the truss rod covers have three screws instead of two?
As well, what would be a decent price for a used (but not abused) 1991 Soloist SL-1? I've been looking around ebay and craigslist, and they're all over the map. I think these guitars have taken a bit hit with the recession... but I wouldn't expect them to stay low for long.
