I own a Jackson RR1 circa '04-'05ish. The nut needs replacing 'cause it has string grooves in it and isn't holding tune.

So I go to a local listed Floyd Rose dealer and say, "I need to buy an original Floyd nut."

He pulls up Stewart McDonald and I'm like, "yeah, I ordered a nut from them but it was the wrong kind, I need the kind that screws in through the top of the nut instead of the back of the neck."

He's like, "lol, that's how all original Floyds are."

    I'm like, "wat".

He's like, "does your bridge say 'Floyd Rose Original' on it specifically?"

    I'm like, "...no."

Am I to believe that my Jackson RR1 has a licensed Floyd bridge on it? Have I been completely unaware of this for like...five years?

Jackson obviously lists their USA models as having original Floyds on them. So, uh...the dealio, what is it?

I ordered this guitar straight from Jackson through Guitar Center, mind you. They built it specifically for me.

He's an idiot. Current Floyd nuts (like on yours) can be either screwed from the top or attached from the bottom - through neck style. Just order the Floyd nut from a reputable dealer - make sure it is not a licensed nut and you'll be fine. Check out -

So how do I specify that I need a nut that screws in through the top? Floyd Rose has very limited information about their parts on their website, and like I said, I already ordered the only Floyd nut Stewart McDonald provided, it was wrong, and they didn't give any specifications for that particular issue.

EDIT: The back of my nut says R3 (also made in Germany, 8[ ).

They all screw down from the top.

The nut that I bought from StewMac didn't have countersunk screw holes, so you could only screw it in from the back of the neck. I'm guessing that's for licensed Floyds? StewMac LIES.

Just call guitar parts depot and tell them you need and original floyd rose R3 nut, talking to someone on the phone might be easier for you to make sure you get the right part.

I do believe Stewmac sells the Schaller branded licensed floyd & parts - not Floyd branded stuff. So there may be a difference. I would buy the original Floyd stuff.

It'd be nice of them to actually, you know...specify that particular detail. Bastards.

I thought they made them in only one version now that had both sets of screws that could either go through the top or through the back.

That's what I meant - the new ones (last whole lotta years - 20 or so) can be screwed down from the top or attached with bolts from behind.

Ah, ok. The Stewmac site says through-neck mounting screws, so it's a little confusing. http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_sa...g_Nut_Set.html
Not many companies still do it through the neck, but Ibanez sure does.

                        They are pretty clear:

These parts are Floyd Rose "licensed" parts. They are for the 'Original' Floyd Rose, Floyd Rose II, and Schaller Floyd Rose tremolos. Some parts may fit other Floyd Rose "licensed" tremolos.

Thanks guys, my RR1 has been out of commission for a long while, hopefully this'll get it up and running again.
