  • Help me with a Kelly Ke2 with Paul Gilbert sig!!!

    Hey guys,
I need your help really fast. There is someone selling a Jackson Ke2 on ebay (i know.....) and maybe even from face to face, but the auction is ending tomorrow! Here´s the link:

Ke2 with Paul Gilbert signature, I already asked for more pics.

It starts at 700€ and I might be able to get for just a little more....
Do you think the signature is worth extra money?

Should i buy it....I didn´t really plan to spend that much money that suddenly!!!

    Help!

I don't think the signature really increases the value of the guitar at all. If it was an Ibanez PGM301 then maybe but you don't see any shots of Paul playing Kelly's so the fanboy isn't going to want to buy it for the signature.

It looks like the guitar is in nice shape though. Maybe the control cover could be flipped seperately. I don't know if 700 euros is a good price or not.

What is really wierd is the mix of an active neck pickup and passive bridge.

So you think it´s a passive seymour duncan?

      well I guess that´s why it´s a custom shop.....

yeah, mixing actives with passives usually means trouble in my book, but on the other hand I have no clue what a real guitar tech or the guys at the custom shop are able to do...

though paul gilbert is awesome I also doubt this will increase the value.
have a look at this custom ibanez paul sold two months ago:

considering it is a one of a kind guitar and out of his very own proberty I think the price is pretty low.
farin urlaubs guitars sold for a lot more a while ago...

but a bit over 700€ isn't much for a KE2 at all, so if you got the money, and like the guitar you won't do anything wrong. these are nice guitars for sure.

but it won't hurt to ask the seller about the PUs.

A sig means NOTHING to me, except some smudge to clean off.

but don't get too nervous about it.
take your time to find out wether this is what you want and don't rush about it.

I don't know for how long you've been watching ebay for jacksons, but there's many nice guitars out there, and even though the steal-deals are rare, they do show up every now and then. even in germany.

Pfft! I'd clean off that sig too. As for the pickups, I'd gut it and replace it with all passives or all actives. The seller probably just left the other pup in there disconnected. I can't see how the two can work together. It's just a no no.

sellers can get a bit shitty when you ask them if they think it would be hard to clean off the scribbling on their guitar too.

I see a run of the mill USA Select purple KE2 with a smudge and an EMG at the neck. There is nothing custom about that guitar....

I´d buy it for 7-800€ and set the electronics up as either full active or full passive, so that´s bout 100€ additional cost right there. I wouldn´t pay more than 900-950€ for ANY used USA Select guitar.

It´s nice that he had the cavity cover signed. Makes it possible to just replace the cover and keep the sig intact for a future buyer.

(assuming he left the stock pots in) When selected singly there will be effectively no issues, the middle position will be a litle wonkly, and the taper of the pots at the neck will be too slow, with audible effects only coming in the last third of a turn.

But it is in no way a "no go" nor would it require one to be disconnected. It just won´t allow the full range of flexibility that doing it properly would offer

Anyways, big thx for all your help guys!!!!

you can't say anyway how much more the winner would have spent on that guitar if you bid on it...
there' always some comfort in ebay...

your guitar will show up some day!

I was tempted to buy it myself, thinking "Wonder if I'll get some grief for depriving him of his prize" However, Sod's Law dictates I'd stumble across I guitar I've just got to have.
