  • Finally got my first Jackson, but I need some help!

Hey guys, I finally own a Jackson guitar and I must say - I'm impressed. I own a USA Dean as well, and both guitars feel amazing despite the price difference between them (Dean was $3000, KV2's run for $2000). But here are a few pictures before I start babbling about the issue

I can post more shots upon request. I have about 8 or so more shots of the guitar.

But on to my problem: I cannot adjust the truss rod. The Allen key that I use to adjust the truss rods on my Deans/Agile do not fit the Jackson. Since I purchased this Jackson KV2 second hand, it did not come with the required Allen keys to adjust anything. I was lead to believe that all truss rods use the same Allen key. But I guess I was wrong.

Could I perhaps purchase an Allen key from eBay? Or is my issue not normal? I might just take it to Sam Ash tomorrow to have 'em take a look at it. Who knows, they might have a spare

    Thanks for any insight guys!

It should be an allen wrench. If you have a set of them kicking around, one should fit. Although I can't recall whether it is metric or standard.

Some guitars actually use a different wrench besides the allen key.
Hell, not all Jacksons use the same size... I had two RR1Ts and they used different size allen wrenches.

            I just checked. My KV2 uses a 3/16" Allen.

It should be a standard 3/16 allen wrench. "T" handles work the best.

Thanks guys! I'll hopefully buy one from Home Depot today or tomorrow. Good thing I didn't take the guitar out today, it's raining like crazy here in NYC.

                      Thanks again!

But problem: I asked my father to bring me a set of Allen keys of different sizes. He got me a pack with like, 8 different kinds or so. And on the front of the package, the sizes were listed. There was definitely a 3/16" key in there.. and it did not fit. Nothing fits! 3/16" is too small.

So I'm guessing now I have to take it to Sam Ash and have them take a look at it. I can't set up the guitar completely, and the action is kinda off which takes away from the fun of playing.

What's the worst case scenario here? Is it even possible to make a custom L key?

Hmmm. Could be the previous owner stripped out the slot, hence the sale.

Or maybe he couldn't find a wrench that fit it either?

I already have one of those sets at home. None of them fit.

Those sets, one is standard and one is metric. If none of those wrenches fit you need to go to a luthier/guitar doctor.
