The intricate inlay work is very impressive on this one!

Looks like Guitar Asylum has the "bookend" King V:

LOL, I know how that comes across, but they do store these babies in a warehouse. So there are no customers touching or trying it out in the store.

Perhaps, but so far I haven't seen lower prices with other stores. I like to think that I scored this one for a fair price (although it is still is a lot of money). If you happen to know other reasonable alternatives, please let me know. BTW, they also put some on ebay.

Looks great! The double Rhoads has red inlays, but I prefer the traditional pearl ones the soloist has.

The red binding really lets it stand out, which brings me to a question: What exactly is the binding made of here? Is it simply a strip of wood painted red? I'm asking cos I don't even know what the traditional ivoroid-looking binding on most US Jacksons are made of, cos those look like it's made of multi-ply binding.

Most binding is simply soft/rubbery plastic.

And I thought you guys had already seen the Bioskull before? Didn't Mike Learn paint a few of those?

Really? Was this always the case or just recently?

What is the material of the binding of early SD-era Jacksons with the nibs over the binding? I figured it was the same material as Gibsons of the day as the binding had a similar look, but I thought it was made of wood. When Jackson switched to no nibs, I figured it was still made of wood.

Love that guitar man, I almost bought it. Glad it found a good home with a fellow Jackson enthusiast.

I've never heard of wood binding except on acoustics. Ivoroid is a form of plastic, and that's what's commonly used on electrics AFAIK. Gibson may have used cellulose years ago like the old Fender pickguards, but again as far as I know electrics always got plastic.

Thanks, man. I think they still have one left It sounds massive in comparison to the standard Soloist with EMG's I had before (sold it to buy this one, otherwise it is getting out of hand financially).

Is there an easy way to find out who painted this? Call Jackson factory perhaps?

Huh, shows what I know about binding....which is squat!
                            Thanks for clarifying.
