  • Appraise my custom shop Korina Kelly!

    I just scored a 1993 Jackson Kelly

Specs are full Korina neck thru with Korina wings.
    Dmarzio bridge pup model ????
unmarked neck pup, not sure on brand/model yet
Jackson licensed Floyd, but this one is one I haven't seen before, it's made in Germany by Schaller and the machining on it feels similar to my original Floyd on my KE1, the real original floyd that says "Original" on the bridge itself, not the currently used schaller OFR.

The neck is a different profile than my other Kellys, it's thinner and flater.
Serial number is a "J", not UO.

I could not find hardly any info on this guitar, and I don't have a good idea on what it's truly worth.
I thought you guys might be able to help me get a rough appraisel so I know how I did. I traded a piece of gear for this Kelly and some cash.

Let me know what you think and what it's value might be, Thanks!

Awesome, never seen one like that! The trem is a JT-590.

      Korina?

Who the hell would build a guitar out of that?

      (Me. I have a 1H strat-head with a Korina neck.)

It's hard to say on CS stuff, but if it's in as good a shape as it looks, that is worth well over a grand, could probably easily get $1500 for it, and maybe more from the right buyer.

The downside to that I can see is that the Kelly seems to be a shape that lends itself to death-metal graphics and the like, and I'm not sure a blonde natural finish is what "those guys" are going to want.

Spec-wise it looks identical to the Korina KV pictured in the 1994-95 catalog. Same configuration, mop-logo on the headstock, etc.

Probably made around the same time I would imagine.

That does appear to be it in the add.

I was figuring that this was a custom shop "run" or "series" guitar, better than a production guitar, but still not a one off custom shop piece.
Definitely feels different than my other kellys, and the body shape is slightly different. The body is longer and the top front horn extends further out over the fretboard than the newer Kellys.

Was likely built before they scaled down the Kelly body size for Marty.

Yep, the mid-size Kelly, not as big as the King Kelly but bigger than the modern Kellys.

It's a Schaller. Jackson model number is the JT-590. Same as a regular Schaller but they just sometimes made them for different guitar manufacturers.

Very nice tremolo, I just re-strung the guitar and feels really good.

As far as the pickups, I was wrong. It appears to have a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge and SH2 in the neck. The allen bolts in the pickup had me fooled into thinking it was a Dmarzio. This Kelly sounds really good, seems I can hear that it's a little bit stronger in the mids and a little less bassy.

There's allens in the bridge pickup's inner coil and slotheads in the outer? Could be a hybrid someone made with a JB and a Screamin Demon, though it is possible to replace the slug poles with hex screws.

And yeah, a USA Custom Shop (J-serial) Korina Kelly in good shape should not sell for less than $1500 even in the worst economy.
