FYI, they'll cut $200 off the lightning. Its serial number is UO2019. Sperzel tuners after market. Very good condition overall.

There is/was an eerie dess SL2H w/EMGs at the Fairfax Guitar Center here in the DC area for about $1k, but I didn't think it was all that great acoustically. I guess it doesn't matter, since EMG guitars all sound the same.

The Floyd on it is licensed - I'm hoping the fact that it came out of Ontario means they didn't put a crappy one on. Someone might know better.

I have 30 days to decide if I'm satisfied, so I figure its definitely worth a go.

If soloists are so great, why does NO ONE endorse them? no one high profile anyways. I personally think their great. but not the best jackson guitar ever. I think it's one of their worst.

It's likely the Schaller tremolo (looks like short string lock bolts in the pic).

That's an older one, if it's got that... I can't recall exactly when the switch-over was (before '02, I know) but it's a good tremolo.

The Lightning finish definiteley is 110% pure baddass. But for the price the EDS is a better deal. The trem might need to be replaced or might need some work. It looks like its rusted a little bit. The lightning also looks dead mint but thats not a very reliable conclusion judging from 1 pic is it?
I say EDS for the price. Youll easily be able to sell it back to someone for the same price or more if you decide to keep it for a while.

The switchover from Schallers to OFRs happened in 1996, which was the last time the USA Soloist was modified/redesigned.

The Schaller and OFR are functional equivalents, IMO. The Schaller has a slightly fatter tone, but they both stay in tune perfectly and are durable.

There is also a bitchin' Blue Ghost Flames SL1 for $1100... Though it is listed as an SL2 and as "faded blue flames" or some such crap.

There's lot of pics of artists playing soloists in the back of the Jackson catalog I think and on the site.

Phil Collen used a couple over his career, if he's not high profile, who is?

Jackson doesn't hand out free guitars like other companys.

EMG's aren't the greatest (but that's just my opinion of course!) I just feel like I get more attitude from passives rather than it just being a gain machine. I'd go with the lightning finish and replace the pickups. The EDS soloist looks like it has a rusty trem.. but most of all personally I'm a huge lightning sky fan.
