  • Fender dropping Jackson??

Hey everybody, I just went to Sam Ashe today and they said Fender which recently bought out jackson, is dropping them. Is this true? I had been wanting to order a custom guitar but they said they can't order them anymore. Just doesn't make sense to me for them not to have a build out if they are going out of business. Please tell me it isn't true!!

Anyway, if anyone knows somewhere I can still order one please let me know. I haven't had a chance to look yet, but there was a 7 month prepaid waiting list for my guitar and I am hesitant after hearing this to make that commitment if anyone does still deal with them. I live in San Antonio, if there are any dealers close to hear please let me know.

    This sucks!!

It's probably SamAss who's dropping them, or FMIC is dropping SamAss from their Jackson dealers list.
I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Recently bought Jackson? October of 2002 is not very recent.

        all rumors

I just got confirmation that these are all rumors.
The actually are doing pretty damn good. Jackson just released a new JS Series and their Custom Shop is slamming.

This was straight from Fender. I work at a Fender/Jackson dealer and have been in the biz for years.

Yeah, I kinda doubt with the show they put on at NAMM that there is even the tiniest shred of truth to this.

Maybe Sam Ash isn't going to carry USA Jacksons anymore... Not as if they have had anything in stock for who knows how long?

Maybe Fender dropped Sam Ash? Although... Who's going to keep Guitar Denter from taking over the world if that happens?

Dammit!! I was about to start buying up every Jackson I could see. I figure once Jackson are dropped (and so soon after Fender bought them out too!) I could start selling them on ebay at a huge markup as "Classic Fender-era Jacksons", much better than the current crappy made in Kazakhstan ones.

I talked to a dealer in Houston and he said Fender is still dealing with Jackson, but they were not doing custom Jackson's because the backlog was a couple of years and they couldn't make any money off them. Don't know if this is the case or not, so lets not start a riot here. That's just what the man said. I would take this as hear-say.

Anyway, it's too late for myself, I just bought a SL2H. Should be here Monday. Oh well, I can always send it back if it's a dud. Cooler heads definitely did not prevail!! That's cool, I've had that itch for a while now.

Hmm, this is interesting since I just spoke with an authorized Jackson Dealer and he's having no issues at all at ordering custom Jacksons. I wouldn't take it as hear say but straight up bs. Since RD and several others have gotten their custom shops in less then 6 months recently.
In the future though I need to remember to not buy guitars while on Nyquil

There is this thing called "The Internet" and some companies have what is called "a website" located on it, where they may or may not sell things. Some of those things might even be things they don't have at the stores near you!

You should check into this, it could open up a whole new world for you, friend!

I don't believe that they'll drop Jackson, but i could imagine them closing the public portion of the custom shop. It's a costly business and it doesn't pay out as much as you would think. It's probably more of a service. When makes custom shop guitars, they are mostly runs off and are limited. That means the prices will all be the same and they will be completed in a selected amount of time. The Luthiers are still getting paid good money, but they have to make the same guitar 100 times. It usually takes them 6 months to complete 100 customs at Fender. Jackson has an open custom shop. Cool for us, but its harder to keep going because you get these long waiting list. People have paid or are paying guitars they won't see for months. Not many people can drop 3-6 grand on a guitar and shut their mouths for six months. So in the end they could just decide to close it to the public and keep the luthiers on for the high end USA's and Custom for endorsees. They could start doing like fender and prepare limited quantities of customs. Dress them up nicer than the USA's and just basically have them hand built by one or a team of luthiers. Where they make their real money is between the JS and pro series. The USA's pay out too, but i think for every 1 USA sold, they sell 4-6 Pros and 10-14 JS models. These guitars can bought from anywhere, cheap music store to big franchises, a million online stores, ebay - you name it and they are probably sold there. Guitars that are harder to find locally are USA's. With price tags easily in the 2k zone, small businesses can't sell them as well as bigger stores, and risking to keep a USA on the wall for 1 year and up for just 200-400$ profit, isn't worth. The shop where i worked had that problem. Had beautiful SL1HT with a broken glass graphic. Took two years to sell. The other was a USA warrior with the rusted bolt king of graphic. That took a year and half. Meanwhile we were ordering new pro's every other month and selling JS models every week. I hope they don't get rid of the customs because there aren't many publicly opened Custom Shops around anymore.

So, Fender, this guy at Sam Ash told me you dropped your Jackson. I hope it didn't get dinged up much!

its inevitable! Fender (the brand) cant handle anything pertaining to business! I had undervalued how much faster illogical rumors spread on the internet than they do in small town high school...
