    I personally don't care.

Anyway, it showed up about an hour ago... It's gently warming up in the living room... I am resisting opening it, the metal railings on the case are still ice cold.

Well, the good news... It's Dark Metallic Blue, which is awesome. I'd have been fine with Cobalt Blue but I was hoping it was DMB. Man, it's a beautiful dark blue, very nice in person (and, like most metallic/pearl/candy paints, hard as hell to photoraph.) The fretboard looks good, the routes are nice, the neck fits well.

The guy had it listed as "new" and said it had "never been played" but there are a fair amount of string scratches on the frets. I may dress them, but it's nowhere near as bad as the 20-year-old guitar it replaced.

Also, no hang tag, no allen wrench, and the knobs are the standard Jackson knobs for solid-shaft pots, but on the EMG pots. On my old DK1, they had used the thin brass tubing "adapters" on them but this one doesn't have them. No biggie, I guess, I had some extra adapters and wrenches, and though I would have liked to see the WO# and all that, it's cool.

The bad news... The headstock is de-laminating.

It's not awful, but it's there, and I don't know what I can really do about it.

        Pics soon.

D'oh - that sucks. I guess Jackson won't take care of that?

I guess you can send it back to the seller - item not as described.

No, it's still terribly overpriced no matter how you look at it. They sell new DK2Ms for over $900 here. They used to price fairly but lately they've been gouging like nobody's business. They seem to claim it's because of the bad dollar but our dollar has been quite strong for a while yet they haven't adjusted their prices. I can understand a year ago when they first raised prices because our dollar tanked but now it's back up to where it was.

Does anything you buy these days have nothing wrong with it?

L&M prices do seem a little higher than the competition these days. I shop at Tom Lee most of the time because I have a good relationship with the staff. Their prices aren't always the best, but they will bend on most products and I get great service and support from them.

Well, I guess I COULD send it back... How long would I wait for another Dark Metallic Blue DK1, though? :dunno:

Surely it can be fixed if I can't live with it. I bet Mike Learn could fix it up good as new... Probably would not be the most exciting refinish work he ever did but I don't doubt it could be done.

I mean, like I said, "Old Blue" had been dropped on cement and was pretty dinged/beaten up. And while I do kind of at the idea this guy claimed the guitar was "new" the price I offered him was considering the fact he was probably full of shit, and also considering it's something I can't get anymore. .

The body is FLAWLESS. There is not a single scratch on it. The fingerboard is very good, the neck pocket fit is excellent, it plays/sounds great... I am thinking it's a keeper.

Ah, I can ALWAYS find something wrong with something, the question is usually whether I care or not, or "how wrong" it is.

But yeah, it does seem like my luck has been a little on the shitty side lately.

                  Anyway... Pics as promised!

Edges of the routes look good, unlike all the Soloists I've seen lately...

Here's a "reasonable" shot of the logo. It's not a total fail, but I wish it were better.

Couple of closer pictures... If you're wondering what I'm talking about that "grey line" that is underlining the Jackson logo is not a reflection... It's where it's de-laminating.

And now, the good part... I love this color!

And, just for reference... Here's the old guitar:

beautiful. There used to be one just like it at Onlinestagegear that I used to regularly drool over. Couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on it though, and then it sold

Thanks! I am really loving it. I can't decide if I'm over the logo/headstock issue or not... I guess I am for the moment at least.

Yeah I think I always thought I was going to get one... Then they discontinued the finish.

First - very nice guitar. It certainly looks killer.

Second - something about pointy headstocks that makes me want them to always be in pristine condition. I think any defects devalue the pointy head in my opinion - but the body I don't care so much about.

I've said this about some of your other aquisitions (or failed aquisitions) - if it's going to bug you every time you look at it - take care of it. If it's not going to bug you - play the heck out of it.

Nice!! Thats a sweet ass color; hope you got a good deal on it due to the headstock issue.

me too, to a point. (hur hur)

I've got a few where there are scuffs and dings around the headstock but the point (at least from the front) must be intact. I actually have one that has some point damage, but from the front you wouldn't notice. I can live with that. But if you break that point off, it destroys the whole look of the guitar for me

That's how I look at it, too. The tip needs to be pretty much pristine (or at least touched up so it's indistinguishable from a couple feet away) from the front, or it bugs me.
