I got to play a BGF Shannon here at a local GC and wasn't all that impressed with it. They didn't really recapture the typical neck profile of an '80s Soloist on that particular guitar.

BTW, the Pearly Gates might have been chosen to mimic the original J50, which was basically a low-output PAF clone.

The early Jacksons came with Duncan pickups, mine had a JB I think.

Neck profiles really vary. My friend has a white '85 Soloist that was made a few months before mine, and his neck is much thinner. Mine is as thick as my R8 Les Paul! Custom shop means no guitar is exactly the same I guess! And they didn't have the high-tech computers to guide them like that do today.

Jackson started using the J50 in place of Duncans in late '84, I believe. My J0456, finished in January '85, had a J50 originally (now it has a Duncan Blackout).

The neck on the Shannon I played was way thinner than any SD era Jackson I've ever played. I know they vary, though. Given that the Shannon has the big control cavity and ultra-jumbo frets, it's actually more like a late '80s Soloist than an SD guitar, anyway.

What kind of truss rod wrench is used on the Shannons? Someone once said they used an allen wrench and not the more common socket-type wrench.

she is most definitely an allen wrench. The green finish looks different in every light. Totally wicked ass.

Maybe its because they already know the answer: Its not for sale! Anyway, the Pearly Gates needs to go, replace that bridge pickup with your personal favorite and you're ready to rock with these Shannon Soloists!
