I don't get what you mean by "transition" model? The move to Ontario was in 1986, so if you're certain it's an '85, that doesn't make sense. Further, serial number 4110 indicates a 1987 at the very earliest. The last SD Jackson was #1505. And remember, there were Jackson bolt ons made in the Glendora plant, not just Charvels. You sure about the serial number? If it is what you said originally, my bet is a refinished headstock and/or body with that logo applied. Also, you mentioned being "REALLY pissed" that your "Customs" arrived with plastic cases and JT-6 trems. But Customs would be ordered to spec, so you would have to have known what it was coming with. Confusing.

i really need to take the neck off and see what info is in the neck pocket. but i am 99.9% sure the headstock has NOT been refinished, it's legit.

it's probably an ontario guitar made with leftover san dimas parts. but it's original, and a one owner guitar from the original store that sold it when it was new to the original owner.

just finished wiring it up with my pickups in there, and it's sounding GREAT. really nice to play, and just a great example of why many of us love these guitars

and the plastic cases....that's what i ended up with. i just assumed that i would get the standard tolex cases like all the other jacksons and charvels i had seen or owned came with up to that point. these were the first "chainsaw" cases any of us had seen, so i didn't know there was a choice between the two.

My 87 (serial number 1987 too) came with a chainsaw case I just figured they started the chainsaw cases in 87.
#1499 the 86' has the G&G Jackson badged case.My 85 SD #J0604 Kelly didn't have the metal badged case but is a G&G.

Just for the record #1499 has the large Jackson logo and the R mark/SG36 tuners with the 90 degree tabs.Being toward the end of the SD run logo's parts all were mixed up.
Case in point I had Charvel 5490(next to last one made) and it was ordered at the same time and it had a strat headstock and larger Jackson logo.
These guitars can be a mystery sometimes.
Had an 89-90 RR with a Kahler which I found odd with the large pick up rings.Odd again it had a soloist serial number.

yeah! it's really hit and miss with these guitars.

i am thinking maybe they used an older logo on this guitar, since it was a white headstock and all they had left were old san dimas era logos? that is for sure the old style early 80s logo, with TM and "made in USA" directly under the Jackson logo.

next time i change strings, i will pull the neck off and see what it says on the neck and in the neck pocket.

many things about this guitar tell me it's NOT a later 80s guitar. and the music store that originally sold it MIGHT have records going back to the date of sale. i'm gonna ask them to try and look it up

one VERY cool piece that store has is one of the PETER MAX painted Jacksons, i think they only did 10-12 of those.

it's on display, but the store manager said next time i come in, we are gonna pull it down for some cleaning and dusting, and i am gonna take some pics and plug it IN and film a video demo of it!

I also have an 87 Strat with San Dimas era logo and cavity shape. Neck pocket markings / Wo numbers match. Some guitars took longer to complete for whatever reason and parts/specs got mixed up. I've noticed that these often have Kahlers so wondering if they had to wait for a Kahler bridge delivery for a couple of months...

the music store was right. this guitar was ordered in late 85, and was actually finished in August of 1986!

yes! it all matches......i am one lucky guy. i know this is not the most "collectible" of the san dimas era guitars, but it's a GREAT player, and is 100% original, other than the new pickups i put in it.

Mike Eldred built some of the best. I have owned his guitars before.....

this one was really a lucky score for me....one owner, in the original tolex case with metal "jackson" badge, and it was babied all its life. the original owner was NOT a gigging guy -- there's absolutely NO WEAR on the back of the body.

i had a strong feeling this was a San Dimas era guitar, just from the way it feels and plays. taking the neck off and seeing THIS really made me smile

i'm really glad i snagged this. i knew it wasnt a later ontario made guitar, those feel a bit different. this one feels exactly like a Charvel San Dimas "pointy" -- which is exactly what it is, just with a Jackson logo.

I pulled the neck on mine tonight and my buddy must have been incorrect as to when it was built so in the neck pocket was 9-10-86 and the letters J.G. plus the W/O number 8800 that was the only number on the neck heel no date.

I've got basically the same guitar, from 11/86 (in a lefty of course). Does anyone know what size tuners I need to replace the silver ones that are on my guitar? I really would like to have the screw holes in back line up correctly.
