Yo...I'm trying to retrieve some info on this guitar. My friend who owns a local music store is trying to sell this on consignment. The gentleman who brought it in claims its a prototype which is probably true. It's a beautiful guitar. It appears the body is an arched dkmg body, but the contours on the horns are a little more exaggerated. It also looks like its got an reverse slsmg headstock, which I have never seen. Beautiful blue flamed maple body. Another thing I haven't seen is that it has a wilkinson bridge. He wasn't sure what the pickups are, but believes they are dimarzio's. Also, the neck on this thing is f'ing fat. Like 59 Gibby fat. It's the fatest neck i've felt on a superstrat. If anyone could give me a ballpark figure on this it would be great. It is also a USA made jackson.

Yeah, there are some things thats not very Jackson-like, but who knows. If it's a true prototype, then some unfamiliar things are to be expected. It's really hard to put a price on these types of things cuz there is really nothing to compare them to. As far as it's authenticity, I believe it is a jackson made guitar. It's got some "better than average" parts that would make no sense to put them on a knock off or fake.

I thing it's a custom shop version of the AT1.

They don't come up for sale very often, so there's no way to judge what they normally sell for. I'd be willing to bet it was a Prototype, depending on how close San Marcos is to Ft Worth (former HQ where many import and USA protos were sent for review/verification/rejection). The reversed headstock might be the only thing different from the final production model, or it might have serious issues that are not covered under warranty and could not be fixed (i.e. warped/twisted neck, bad truss rod, etc).
If there are not structural issues with it, and you wanted that particular model to play and own, pay what the guy's asking. If you're looking for a cheap score from a clueless seller hoping to strike it rich, go buy a lottery ticket.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Actually the guitar is in Wichita Falls. I just moved and haven't changed my location. I was asking on behalf of a friend, cuz neither of us have witnessed a Jackson like that. I think that guys asking price is a little steep and he is putting too much implied value by claiming that it is a prototype. Maybe if he had some documentation for it, but the most recent AT-1 sales i've seen were for no more than $500. So I figured it could possibly sale for the price of a custom shop AT-1, maybe $700-$800 max.

Another possibility on the mystery AT is that it's a parts mutt. Kevin Easton used to sell AT/SLS necks on his website, although I couldn't say if any were 24-fret with a reversed headstock. The AT1 had a blank ebony board and the AT2 was rosewood with white dots, so any such neck would have been a one-off. But then again, my old AT2T is floating around somewhere with abalone inlays, so you never know.
It probably is a custom or prototype, and a nice-looking one.
