Beautiful guitar, tragic ending.
The top reminds me of one I used to have:
You guys may be right about the maple top being the culprit, but then again, the top was carved AFTER the wings were mounted to the neck and then AFTER the fretboard was mounted to the neck. Measure twice, cut once. That angle has been done correctly a thousand times, so why should it be off on this one?
I agree, it seems that NAMM pieces are turning into "display, don't play".Last edited by Newc; 03-14-2010, 07:07 AM.I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Wow.
I was *this* close to committing a major indiscretion and buying that one myself.
It does appear that the only way to fix that one is to rout out the trem recess even more and install very shallow pickup rings so that the strings clear both the pickups and the rings. But you know what, not only will it look goofy then, but it will feel weird for palm mutes and have the strings sitting ridiculously close to the top of the body (and probably the pickups).
I'm fairly forgiving of cosmetic flaws (even the vaunted San Dimas J/Cs had them in abundance), but playability flaws are 100% unacceptable in a guitar this expensive.
I'm guessing they got in a rush to finish everything up for NAMM and didn't bother to take accurate measurements in the cutting process. If it was some dude in his basement building his first guitar, you could understand this, but for Jackson to do it???? Words fail me.

Update if anyone cares to know:
The guitar got back to Drum City today. They are sending it back to Jackson to have the issues fixed. Next time you see this thing for sale at Drum City, it should be issue-free.My name may be Matt, but in no case does that mean I will let you walk all over me

The best guitar I've ever played has been a USA Jackson, however I've also played a fair share of USA Jackson's that were awful to just mediocre. And that's from a guitar that cost $2000-ish. Whereas their high end Japanese imports seem to at least have consistent build quality. They may not be as good as USA but if I'm having to buy sight unseen as I usually have to do the imports seem to be the better value these days.
