Don't forget - the reason to do a multi-piece neck is to oppose the grain of each cut of wood. This helps prevent warping/twisting as the grains pull in opposite directions. Hamer and Gibson both did this in the 70's in response to warped necks and broken headstocks.

Sounds weird if the body is made of 6 strips of wood. But anything was possible back then. Even Gibson Explorers and some V's had this construction. If the paint is in good shape and orginal, it'd be a keeper in my book.

      Ah, I see.

I will double check. Its 4, 5, 6 pieces of wood in the body.

The reason I know is, while the paint is in good condition. The white has yellowed some and the individual pieces of wood can be seen due to line cracks in the paint(on the back mostly) that show individual pieces of wood.

Its a keeper for me anyways. Sentimental value, parents bought, its a Randy Rhoads. You get it

That is very interesting a makes alot of sense.
I guess they figured a way to reinforce in 1985-86.

was there an earthquake going on when you took that picture? Or did you have your stereo turned to 11 and it was rattling the whole house? why the shakiness?

Agreed it is horrible. I have a Razr Cell phone and that is the photo quality.

I will post better ones because I just dont like that photo but I wanted everyone to see what it was.

The neck goes through the body, so you're probably seeing the three pieces of the neck in the center with two pieces of the body attached to its sides.

I love seeing the glue seams in the finish on those old Rhoads models. Dunno why, I just think it's cool.

No, Gibson went back to one piece necks because the purist said it was killing the tone having multipiece necks.

I have two of the three (one piece mahog, three piece maple; missing the three piece mahog) and they both sound different but good.

Zakk and John S can't be wrong.

That's a very 80s flavor of sweetness. I'd call it a keeper too.

                    Thanks.

I am a Trans Am man too.

                    I had 2 1979 - one black and one I painted burgundy.

                    I had a 1988 GTA - black on black.

                    Sweet!!!

did you see the t/a kits that are available to transform the new camaros?

Yes they looked unpleasant. The 98-02 WS.6 is the best looking T/A in my opinion.

Agree to disagree. Third Gens are my favorite. Don't like the bubble body, but I wouldn't kick one out of bed.

BTW I still have a 1990 GTA, black on black.

Hamer still does this. I think it's a good way to keep the neck stable.

Well I prefer Camaros. They do a have Bat Mobile look to them. Its generally the performance and ease of modification that lead me to the LS1 platform F-bodies. Although Third Gens with LSX swaps are sweet.

I miss Pontiac already. My avatar is a pumpkin I carved in tribute thereunto.

My lawn ornament is a '70 Lemans Sport. I like a lot about the Camaros and Firebirds but always preferred the smoother ride and roomier interior of the a-bodies. That said, I'd take any of the above. I think the new camaros are kinda ugly but if I had any credit to speak of, I'm sure I'd be driving one. Hell, I'd take one of the 300hp/29mpg V6 models.

I do have a pair of scoops off a '70 Formula hood (it was mangled, don't worry) tho. I'm intent on grafting them onto my lemans hood at some point. Favorite hoodscoops ever.

                              Photoshop simulations:
