  • The crying game.

Went to the shop today. Now I only owe $1738.99 on my used custom shop soloist to be exact.I got to play it again for an hour, while drooling.I still can't believe it was set from factory with 9's though. When I get it I'm sending it over to my buddies house,he will be setting it up for standard D with 11's.Hopefully it works out because I have noticed the bridge is already rather low on the posts, action hopefully will come down.If not it will be on e-slay.I did however like the fact I could open a pamplet in the case and view the specs.JEEEZZ.This thing is amazing.Sorry again, cant post pics yet.Mac 10.3.9 with unsupported browser, cost too much for tiger...BASTARDS.Dial-Up doesn't help also.Again, bash me if you will,I had to get it off my chest.

Will post pics as soon as she is home.

To post pics, you just need to upload them to Photobucket and then paste the IMG links into the box where you type your post, it shouldn't matter at all what browser you have.

    Now, post pics.

Why are you surprised it came from the factory with 9's? And why would you eBay it if the action's too high?! You can adjust these things, you realize this, right? You won't need a "tech" to do that work, it's extremely simple. Are you sure this is a Jackson Custom?

It say's Made In USA,Custom Shop on the headstock.Yes I'm sure. And if I had to sell it I wouldn't mark up the price, just try to get my money back.

To answer the question on what makes it custom.Black/red snakeskin/Reverse Headstock,Ibanez Jack,OFR,George Lynch H/S,Skull and Crossbone inlay, mother of pearl headstock logo, black bound neck and headstock, the list goes on.I will scan and post the spec sheet when it gets home.

I'm just used to playing thicker strings is all.9's are a little tin-e and since I play in Standard D they would be a little slack.

As far as not needing a tech,I know how to set up my guitars,I just noticed the action is already a litte high and the floyd is already down as far as it will go on the posts,no room for adjustment.Regardless the guitar feels amazing,I can get used to it.I always wanted a Jackson Custom Shop but could never afford to have my own built. This one will due until I have my own done.

It probably just has a little too much relief in the neck. Easy fix, plus you'll probably have to tweak the truss rod a little anyway when you set it up with the 11s. Sounds like a pretty cool one.

I asked because usually someone who is owning a Custom Shop would already know those things and since you didn't it sort of made me wonder, that's all. There are ways to lower the action like was mentioned by adjusting the truss rod. Did you buy/finance this for $2000? If you do have to sell it there is the chance you won't get that much, or was it over $2K?

Yeah you can forget selling a Custom Shop for what you paid. I have yet to see it happen.

However, it sounds like yours is having the same issue Oblivion99's had - Floyd sunk into the body and action wasn't buried in the board. If it was me, I'd definitely get it set up to my specs before I paid another dime on it, as it might have to go back to be rebuilt.

But, Newc, it's a used CS, so there is no chance of a transfer of warranty or rebuild possible.

I looked at it a little harder the other day,The posts do have a little more room to go down into the body.I'm pretty confident after it is set with 11's,the floyd dropped down a little and a neck adjustment if any at all it should be fine. The only other thing I'm wondering is if the 11's will require any kind of modification to the nut.Regardless everytime I see that guitar in person I fall even farther in love with it.

Generally on a recessed-trem Soloist or DK1, with the neck pretty straight (a little relief) and the action pretty low (about 1.5 - 1.7 mm) the top of the Floyd base plate will be just above the recess in the body.

A Floyd will do just fine with 11's.
