  • Weird Jackson -- need help identifying

    Parts mutt? Proto?

The guy bought it from a collector in California in 1989 -- says it may be some kind prototype, but it's sketchy and I have my doubts. The guy who owns is it pretty clueless on most concepts. Does the serial mean anything?

    Well, any ideas?

Not totally buying that's an Ibanez body, but yeah, that's a 'woodburn' Jackson replacement neck...

This guitar is "suppose" to be a Steve Stevens prototype guitar (from what this collector was telling me). Steve always had the slanted pickups. The body looks like the Monsters Ball Jackson Dinky which was shown at Jackson Museum website some time ago.

Does a legit woodburn neck mean anything?

A woodburn neck came from when Jackson would supply retro-fit necks when ordered. They were unlogoed, other than a 'brand' of the Jackson logo on the heel as on yours. It doesn't "mean anything" other than it's most likely a legit Jackson made neck.

Are there any markings in the neck pocket on the body?

The tilt on the pickups makes the neck look crooked. I couldn't play that guitar, it would be like The Jerk where Navin B. Johnson's new glasses design makes everyone crosseyed.

The owners says there are no other markings on the guitar -- just the "GJ47-502" on the trem cover. No markings in the neck pocket.

The guitar bodies are nothing alike. Tis not a Jackson.

The truss rod cover is unusually shaped, not a standard Jackson issue. And the string bar is also uncharacteristic of a Jackson. That "serial" means nothing, it's hand written on a cavity cover.

Non-recessed trem cavity cover = not Jackson.

Show a pic of the control cavity cover.

The guy didn't give me pics of the control cavity. And yes, I'm guessing he will throw it on ebay.
