  • KV2 vs KV5FR

Hey guys! My friend is going on vacation to the states(Florida) and he's willing to bring me back a Jackson. The KV2 basically costs twice as much. Is it worth it? And are there any flight cases for the King V?

Anyone here that can recommend a way to bring back the guitar to Sweden? Should he have it with him inside the plane or just have it with all the heavy luggage? Are flight cases safe? And a King V costs a whole lotta love here in Sweden!

    Thanks, appreciate it!

You usually get a flight case when buying a USA Jackson like the KV2. With the increased security since 9/11, I wouldn't count on being able to bring it home as carry-on - at least they've never let me do it, and they've been really strict with the size restrictions in certain airports. Anyways, I've checked in my guitars on transatlantic flights many times without suffering any damage to the them. The ground crew managed to crack the corner on one of my cases though (and it had fragile stickers all over).

No problem! And as for your other question, I would go for the KV2 If you get it at a good price in the states, you can sell it back here used basically without any significant loss.

If you don't want to risk the flight back, buy it here and then ship it home.

Then it gets hung in customs and you have to pay VAT! Take it back on the plane.

And get caught by customs so you end up paying VAT, any duties plus a penalty for not clearing the guitar. How stupid are you if you think you can walk by customs unnoticed with a huge guitar case.

Same thing happened to Rsmacker when he brought back a guitar in snakeskin finish. Imagine custom's stupid reaction when he uttered the name of the finish. Has was charged the fees he should've paid, then VAT slapped on the total.

People travel with their instruments all the time, nothing dubious about that.

No, you don't. You'll get a regular plastic hardshell case. Flight cases are aftermarket and more sturdy, usually reinforced aluminum.

Ah, you're right. I meant the hardshell ones. Those are the ones I've used.

So you guys are saying that my friend can't bring a guitar even if it's say, for himself? I mean it's not as if he's smuggling twelve guitars or anything. Just bringing home a newly bought electric guitar. I seriously need a confirmation on this because it is happening soon.

                        Thanks!

He could say he is a musician and this guitar isn't newly bought..

If you say you just bought a guitar you are a moron.

I would say get an ATA case somehow and send it in that...

In the past i've sent mine with the luggage, but those were usually in ATA Flightcases (Gator, Jackson). I've sent one through with a regular hardshell Gator and it came back beat up (but the guitar was fine)

Cover it in fragile stickers (or paint fragile on the sides) and load it on.
                          I like EL34s.

id go with the KV2. as for taking that monster on the plane, it would short of impossible, its huge. you should get in contact with your customs agency and inquire how much hassle they will give him. other than that i would do what grim says to do and you will be fine.
