  • Rhoads model ID help

Like the title says, I need some help authenticating a Rhoads I have on layaway. I do not know much about Jacksons so I figure I would come to the experts. I found a Rhoads at GC used labeled on the tag as a 1989 model. It has a Schaller made floyd, Jackson pickups and is painted what looks to be a creme color with a light flake in it. The part I have questions about are the following:

The guitar has black bevels and the frets are on the small side and go over the binding, not like they have been dressed but thin and somewhat tall. I am used to seeing modern Jacksons with 6100 fretwire so I assumed that they were always that way. Would a 1989 model have painted bevels? Did jackson use thinner fretwire then than they do now? Could these be custom features that were ordered? I do not have the full serial number, it starts with RR26 but I do not have the last two numbers.

Thanks in advance for any replies I may receive.

with an RR26?? serial number id say its a '89 or '90 Rhoads custom, made in Ontario

the 'RR' on the serial number indicates that it is a USA Jackson (Rhoads) and not a production model, USA production models started at around this time (prior to that all USA's were made to order), USA production models have a serial number starting with 'U', alothough there are some (uncommon) exceptions

So from the serial number alone it was made to the specs of whoever ordered it, anything was possible for a price, any fretwire could be spec'ed

hope this helps, and I hope the guitar isn't beat to shit!

RR26xx would be anywhere from 1990 - 1992. Need the rest to narrow it down.

I had the serial # wrong, it is RR2349. No the guitar is not beat it is in 9/10 condition with no fret wear which is what made me think it was a re-fret. I am excited about this guitar as Randy is one of the guys who got me into playing guitar, the fact that it is cheap is a bonus.
