DK1 neck?

In my opinion an RR5 is better than a KE3 with a USA neck, but I prefer neck through over bolt on.

I prefer neck thru also, that's why I'm having my guitar teacher sand down the neck and joint on the body to resemble a neck thru or set neck.

So it's a smoother transition like a neck thru, rather than having my hand getting blocked from the standard bolt on where the neck meets the body.

Probably. There are various contoured heel designs you could do with a router, but then there are some "I glued my neck in the pocket and then busted out a belt sander" abortions on Ebay.

I mean, I'm not saying your guy is a hack or anything, but, I'm just saying I'm seen the opportunity for it to go very wrong.

+1. If you really notice a difference between playing a bolt vs. a neck through, and prefer a neck through, buy a neck through. As MAJNH states, there is a huge "opportunity for it to go very wrong".

Here's another trick. Route the neck pocket deeper and with an angle.

What about a Dinky XL neck? It will have real mother-of-pearl sharkfins, binding and (usually) high-quality rosewood. The locking nut might need to be replaced due to trem changes over the years, but something to consider.

I put a Dinky RVS (reverse) with MOP inlays on a DR3 body, as I didn't like the DR3 neck's MOTO inlays.

oh lord dont do that sanding shit man. first off all, the wood thats holding your neck on its gonna be that much thinner which means less support, now if you REALLY,REALLY,REALLY want to do it, my suggestion would be first set it up to make sure no shimming or anything will be needed for the neck to sit where you want it. then sand the body to shape. get some good wood glue and cut the neck bolts or get new shorter ones so you dont come thru the fretboard. put glue in the pocket and along the heel. place and bolt tight. let it sit for a few good hours, then drill 4 holes. one about a quarter inch in from each bolt. run a nice maple dowel in those spots. now counter sink the bolt holes. why cause if you want it to feel like a neck thru you will need to have them sit slightly under the level so that you can put some wood filler over it and make it so you cant even tell its bolted. now that you've read all this, know that i'm no luthier, this is just how i would do it if i was truly compelled to do so. i'd just put an angle on the backside to give it a thinner feel.
