I have it from a good source that this truss rod cover setup is factory original, and seen on many early Ontario Jacksons. I may try to order an arrow cover to see if it will 'interlock' with the opening, but I doubt it.

Yeah the rectangular piece with the notch is a shim for the stringlock, and looks to be original. The truss cover is held in place by a single screw, with that tab interlocking with that notch in the shim.

I dunno, maybe someone else who has seen that will chime in. I've never seen that, and there's no way that gap allows you to get a wrench in there for "easy access".

I looks like it had to be ground shorter so as not to overlap the logo and they didn't bother to add leave a "tang" to go in the notch of the Kahler nut.

Interesting, makes sense to me. Looks like Jackson took a shortcut here.

Buy the one from FOTN and cut it down to match the original then re drill the mounting hole,Use a file to bevel the front where you cut it and your done
The other piece is definitely a shim for the Kahler lock.

I've heard old Jackson were like that with the lock on top of the cover. I've heard that sometimes they used a standard full sized truss rod cover and just bolted the lock on top of it.

Haven't decided whether I like the FS yet . I am amazed by the tonal variations of this guitar though... with the 3 toggle switches and the coil tap, it gives you a lot to play with. Very nice.
It's not as 'hot' or 'shreddy' as I thought it would be, but this may be due to my amp (custom built AX84 P1) not having a lot of gain. Even with pedals I don't see a big difference compared to my Gibson SG, Explorer Pro, or Les Paul Classic.

The orignal bridge Humbucker was included, and that makes it a Jackson J-50B. It says so on the hang tag, and on a blue round sticker (handwritten) on the rear of the pickup itself.

I plan to solder this one back on and see if I like it.

I have the Full Shred set in a 750XL with a super 5 way switch that does

Easily one of my most versatile axes. The Charvel 750XL if you haven't found out yet is a Les Paul spec Charvel. set neck, maple archtop, thick mahogany body. Mine has a tunomatic like my 5 LP's and gives them a good run for the money. Playability is better because I prefer jumbo frets and a thin neck, but it won't match the tone of my R0 or CR8. In this guitar (short scale too), the Full Shred is very full toned, and going through the DSL100 1/2 stack can easily do Master of Puppets.

Going through the AX84, it depends on how you customized it, but I find with my builds, for doing metal, it helps having a low of watts and a 4x12.

The full shred will be very similar to the 498T in an SG (mine is a 1998). Similar wind, A5 magnets, the pole pieces being the biggest difference IMO.

If your Classic still has the 496R/500T like mine, it should crush the Full Shred.


Your Jackson pickup is label J-50B, so that would mean a PAF wind with an Alnico magnet. I've only tried the J-50BC with a ceramic magnet, but I like then a lot. Everyone's always looking fot a VH tone and in my USA Jackson, I think this pickup has it.

Your J-50B will match up to the single coils very nicely like my J-50BC does with mine, but obviously you aren't going down the path of a heavy metal monster. Just consider this axe to be your Stratocaster tone covering guitar, and use the LP Classic for crunch.

Wow, one of my old Jackson strats was like that. I thought for sure there was some post-factory jackassery going on there. Yeah, it really didn't make a solid platform at all (but I done fixed it up real good ).

Trust me, I know all about the wood. Mine is real mahogany and maple (not basswood) and is often featured in photos on the net. It has a fantactic maple top, better than 4 of my Les Pauls. Only me CR8 has a better top IMO.

I still have the JT-6 sting lock on my guitar and I can't adjust the truss rod at all without removing the locknut. Kinda retarded if you ask me. :think:
