  • Jackson Soloist

Hi! I`m new here, i`ve got a Jackson Soloist, but i`m not sure which one, can anybody help? It has 24 frets on mahogany with sharktooth inlays. It hasn`t got a 5-way switch but 3 separate switches for the mics. The mics are jackson ones, not seymor duncan. One humbucker and two single coil.

Sounds like an 80's Soloist from what you described about the switches/pickups. A serial number would be helpful.

You need to host the images somewhere. Try setting up a free Photobucket account or something of that nature.

That's a soloist custom that's had the paint removed. Without the serial # it's difficult to say for sure, but from the JT6 and oversize bridge pickup, I'm gonna guess it's from 1988...
Popular is not the same as good
Rare is not the same as valuable
Worth is what someone will pay, not what you want to get

It's possible the guitar came unpainted from the factory with just a topcoat on it. There was a similar era one that sold on Ebay several months back that had "Natural" on the body underneath the tremolo plate, so you could check there to see if that or another color is indicated. I agree with the age, 1987-8. BTW, during this era the Jackson Soloist was really the only name given to the model. Since it has sharkfin inlays and binding, they refer this as a Soloist Custom to differentiate it from the Student model that had dot markers. But in reality, all these guitars were custom built at this time.

Thanks for the response! I don`t know if the paint is stripped off or not, I bought it second hand. I think the previous owner bought it in London. Does anybody know how much is it worth? It looks like this underneath, where can i find the serial number?

Of course the paint was stripped. You can, obviously, see blue paint in the trem cavity.

Should be stamped into the fretboard after the last fret.

You don't have to even look at that. No offense, but the wood is cosmetically awful.

I don't believe that's mahogany. Pretty sure that's the typical maple neck with either poplar or alder body wings. Poplar was used quite a lot back then, but it'll usually have a greyish-greenish color to it, so I'm leaning toward alder from the pics you've shown.

Yep, I'm calling Poplar or Alder on that too. Most likely Alder.
All men play on 10. Never gonna turn down again.
