  • Soloist, DK1 or PC1 ?

Hey need some advice from the cracks here. Would like to buy my first USA Jackson. Not sure which.

Looking at a SL1 or 2 (which i understand differ only in PUP config) a DK1 one which seems to have a thinner unfinished bolt on neck and a PC1.

I have no info on the PC1 neck.

I like something a little more versatile ,and am not sure if the Soloist and DK is a Metal/Shredder only? Opinions ?

    Thanks

I believe the PC1 necks have varied over time (or possibly the different PC models had different thicknesses) but the PC1 is generally one of the thicker necks in the Jackson line. The thing it brings to the party that the others don't is the sustainer. The solist and dinky necks are pretty close in profile and thickness except for the heel area obviously. I'm a neckthrough zealot so I say get a soloist. The SL1 is a pretty versatile guitar and any soloist can be made even more versatile sounding with some coil tap switching put in.

Is the PC1 neck close to a fender C shaped ? And is it unfinished like the DK1 necks? I like that better than the painted ones .

      Thanks

The soloists are very versatile, I prefer the SL1 configuration as I think the stacked single coils take some edge off that sounds really nice.

The PC model probably looks more versatile, in that it looks more like a typical strat. partly depends if you can get past the unmarked fretboards (although dots are on the fretboard edge).

They are all good, best option is to try them out or watch some youtube demos at least.

They're all good choices, I'll focus on the negatives of each...

          - PC1 neck is huge. It's way bigger than a typical Strat.

          - DK1 comes with EMG's. To me, EMG's are not what I'd call "versatile."

          - SL1/SL2H... Really nothing bad to say unless you don't like painted necks, personally I let them get a little greasy and they do just fine for me.

PC1 neck shape is a soft D shape. Thick, but very comfortable to me anyway. In fact, it was surprisingly comfortable.
If you're into thin necks, this is NOT the guitar for you.
As for versatility, I would put it up there as one of the most versatile guitars in the Jackson line.
Some people don't like the darker tone of the Super 3, but that's pretty easy to remedy.

PC1 neck is bigger than the standard jackson neck "fare" but I found it really comfy.
depending on what you prefer (bolt on or neckthru)
you really can't go wrong with either a soloist or a PC1.
                they both rip
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Not into Ibanez Wizards, prefer PRS Standard, Gibson 60's neck, Fender C.

I don't mean to imply there is anything wrong with the PC1 by any means (outside my own preferences) or that there is no way someone could find it to be the most comfortable neck they've ever played- it might be *exactly* what you've been looking for all this time!

But it IS far thicker than anything I've run into on a Strat or Jackson. I find it more similar to a Gibson Les Paul than either of those.

I haven't tried a DK1 yet, but it seems like a guitar for me. I've owned both a PC1, SL2H and a SL2HMAH. The PC1 had a fenomenal tone to it. The SL2HMAH also had a very good tone. It depends on what kind of tone your looking for.

i think i am looking for something that is versatile and covers blues as well as rock, maybe some nice cleans. The EMG equipped DK1 seemed to be perfect metal machines

I use my RR1T for clean and blues tones all the time, plus it's great for rock and of course metal. I stand by my recommendation of an SL1 or SL1T, depending on if you are a whammy guy or not. Unfortunately Jackson guitars are like Pokemon. Once you start you gotta get em all.

You can always swap the pickups out on a DK1 for a traditional JB/Jazz or JB/59 combo.

They are great for that. I agree swapping in some passives would be the ticket for versatility with the DK1.

I don't know why though, I've had two DK1's, and while they were great I've always wished it was an SL2H instead. :dunno:
