  • NGD: 2868 ... pays to be evil....

So I came across this on eBay before Xmas. Always loved that finish and the 1-hum configuration. Could tell it needed some TLC, but on a lark I put a bid of $666.66USD and won it. So it pays to be evil sometimes. Ha!

It has a few battle scars, but not bad for a fiddle from 1987. Nice neck - slightly flatter than my San Dimas Charvel profiled necks. It does need a set-up and maybe a fret dressing otherwise it's a nice player. Weighs in at 8.9 lbs. I've already contacted Budman. Got him fabricating some parts for the restoration. Will definitely swop out the PU and trem. Previous owner also included the original Jackson PU (J-50c?, black covers raised logo) so I'll probably post it in the classifieds with the original over-sized PU ring once I get a fresh one sized for regular PUs from Budman.

It's also my oldest Jackson in the bunch. And a first for me as an 80s Jackson. Body and neck numbers match up but there isn't a stamp in the trem cavity. Were they all not stamped? I'm not too familiar with 80s Jackson, so please feel free to chime in on any advice or tidbits of knowledge. e.g.: What does 'OBD' on the neck's heal mean? I've seen that on trem cavities that are stamped.

    Enjoy the pics:

I would assume OBP would be initials?

The serial is not a "J" number, that would denote neck through. It's only a four digit number indicating a bolt on, your title was misleading!

That's fairly heavy I need to weigh my 1988 Dinky with an H-S. Mine came with an EMG which I sold for $75, and I bought a J50BC for $25 so I'm out $310 for mine And IMO, the J50BC sounds Fantastic. Originally the J50BC was going into a Model 4, and I was trying to score a J80C, but I got tired of waiting and hooked it up just for fun. You might want to try the same before chucking it. Also, for the price you'll get for the J50BC, you might as well keep it in case you decide to sell the axe in the future and someone wants it original (like me).

Sorry. Can an ADMIN please edit the thread's title? Don't think I can.
            thanks to all.

Yep. I had one in a model series charvel back in '89/'90. It was cool. I might follow your advice and hold onto it - to maintain it's original condition, down the line.

I think I remember that one, I couldn't decide if it was a dinky or a strat...

I thought it was a strat because it looks rounded, but it looks small like a dinky. I'm confused as well.

When I'm home, I'll compare it to my charvel strats and let you know. My only Dinky is in my Brother's possession so I can't compare it to that.

Huh. On 1st glance, I figured it was a strat. But on 2nd look, it might be a dinky with rounded edges. A close-up shot of the body, esp. the horns would help.

Most strats are obvious, as are most Dinkies. But some are right in between.
