So I came across this on eBay before Xmas. Always loved that finish and the 1-hum configuration. Could tell it needed some TLC, but on a lark I put a bid of $666.66USD and won it. So it pays to be evil sometimes. Ha!
It has a few battle scars, but not bad for a fiddle from 1987. Nice neck - slightly flatter than my San Dimas Charvel profiled necks. It does need a set-up and maybe a fret dressing otherwise it's a nice player. Weighs in at 8.9 lbs. I've already contacted Budman. Got him fabricating some parts for the restoration. Will definitely swop out the PU and trem. Previous owner also included the original Jackson PU (J-50c?, black covers raised logo) so I'll probably post it in the classifieds with the original over-sized PU ring once I get a fresh one sized for regular PUs from Budman.
It's also my oldest Jackson in the bunch. And a first for me as an 80s Jackson. Body and neck numbers match up but there isn't a stamp in the trem cavity. Were they all not stamped? I'm not too familiar with 80s Jackson, so please feel free to chime in on any advice or tidbits of knowledge. e.g.: What does 'OBD' on the neck's heal mean? I've seen that on trem cavities that are stamped.
Enjoy the pics:
